Hestian Building Systems Ltd. Hestian Building Systems Ltd creates and produce ecofriendly, sustainable and passive buildings and homes using the SIP technology in Mauritius. m.

Hestian Building Systems Ltd. was launched in 2012 after acquiring the production lines of a Las Vegas Company specialized in the production of Structural Insulated Panels. Empowered with the vast experience in the Steel and Construction Engineering, our engineers and designers embarked in a re-adaptation of the lines to produce polyurethane cored SIP panels incorporating Magnesium Oxide outer ski

ns. New devices were developed for fast and reliable panel er****on systems capable of resisting wind loads inherent to cyclones and tornadoes, enabling optimum utilization of the full capacity of the SIP Panels. In 2013 the Hestian Building Systems launched its first prototype by erecting one 180 sq. fully furnished house ready for occupation during a 24 hours timespan. This event was carried out live in front of local and African media at the SVICC Exhibition Centre in Mauritius. All building systems are made from polyurethane cored magnesium oxide cored structural insulated panels and accessories. edge locking frames in galvanised steel act as panel frames and also as tie structure against extremely weather uplift.

We have the pleasure to launch SipCrete, a new structural Insulated Panel with Mgo skin and hybrid concrete/polyurethane core for permanent housing system. This type of construction will enable future extension in either SipCrete or using conventional blockwork technology.
Construction time is reduced considerably compared to conventional blockwork methods.
The system is eco-friendly, fire-resistant and bears good overall insulation capabilities.
Cost of Construction starts from MUR 1100/- per sq ft for affordable houses.

We have the pleasure to inform our valued customers and friends that we have developed a building system for a high quality fixed construction that bears all the advantages of our Hestian SIP, and that can bring down the costs of fully finished construction to around Mauritian Rupees 1000.00 per sq ft, depending on configuration of the building. Watch-out for our next posting for more information.

We have uploaded a new cover picture. This is a fully passive building which does not require any external source of power to service the building. Additionally there is a greenhouse garden inside that serve both as an air purifier and a source of bio-foods.
The building incorporates three bedrooms, a lavish kitchen/dining/lounge, an entrance lobby, a home office and two ensuite bathrooms
The garage can accommodate two cars.
This building utilizes geothermal system for heating/cooling purposes
Grey water is treated for watering of plants outside, whilst rain water harvested is used for toilets, and other permitted usage.
We enclose a transparent view of the building for your pleasure

We are introducing the non-demountable version of the Eucalyptus. This less costly is in line with demands from our Customers, who do not require to move their buildings in time. However duration for er****on on site increases from one week to 3 weeks
This version includes some wet trade on site during er****on namely the pouring of intermediate concrete columns and the casting of concrete overlay slab for the mezzanine floor.
This version has immediately occupiable area of 1220 sq ft on ground floor, 280 sq ft of decking and pergola, and loft area of 700 sq ft.
We offer a launch price of Rs 2,500,000.00 + Vat, for this model

We also propose one less costly variation without the pitched roof. This variation incorporates handrailing on the roof to enable nice outside living. A thatched enclosure is proposed to part of the handrailing. Access to the roof is from the inside of the house.
This version has immediately occupiable area of 1220 sq ft on ground floor, 280 sq ft of decking and pergola, and an open roof deck area of 950 sq ft.
The price for this building is Rs 2,000,000.00+VAT

Investing in a house is the dream of most people. However an intelligent decision makes you save considerably in time, money and give you peace of mind.
The construction technology in Mauritius has been too much conditioned by past experience and we have not been encouraged to look beyond our shores.
Hestian Building Systems invites you to take a look at what Structural Insulated Panels Construction System can do for you
Please visit the following SIPA site which lists out some pertinent frequently asked questions on the system.

Enjoy the reading and good luck

We invite our readers and especially prospective buyers of homes to visit this interesting paper from the University of Florida, USA. Florida is the hub of very violent cyclones, and conditions are similar to Mauritius, except that there the frequency of cyclones is higher.
They put up a compelling support for Structural Insulated Panel construction.

we wish to post some interesting facts on the resistance of the SIP house system against extreme weather

SIPs stand up to tornadoes

Courtesy of Team Industries via energysmartky.com The Southeast and Mid-West have been ravaged by tornadoes this year. SIP homes have repeatedly withstood the 200 mph winds that are delivered by extreme tornadoes. Sun Spaces shares this story,
“One example of how well SIPs have taken on tornadoes is related to a couple living in Tennessee. Mac and Kim Chelsey built their two story home out of SIPs because the material promised more durability, energy efficiency, and a quieter environment than found in stick built homes. They did not expect to be woken by the horrendous noise of a tornado barreling down on their new home. Imagine their relief when their SIP home withstood the 200 mph winds and the only damage to their house was two broken windows and a few loose roof shingles.”
SIPs take on earthquakes and hurricanes

SIP building systems have achieved the highest designation, Class 6 Seismic Designation, for building materials in the State of California.

In January 1995, a severe earthquake (7.2 on the Richter scale) devastated Kobe, a Japanese city of over one million people located southwest of Tokyo. Elevated highways (designed to withstand earthquakes) toppled, railways were destroyed, and entire blocks of houses were leveled. More than 5,000 died and hundreds of thousands were left homeless.

Six homes, located just miles from the quake's epicenter, used SIP building systems and withstood the "Great Hanshine" earthquake.

The exceptional strength of structural insulated panels are designed to resist typical loads caused by seismic activity and high winds.

A striking story about hurricanes comes from Charleston, South Carolina. In 1989, hurricane Hugo hit the city with full force and caused over one billion dollars of damage to buildings, roads, and other infrastructure. The Mayor's Council on the Homeless project for low-income residents had recently finished three cottages built with SIP systems. These cottages withstood the hurricane with no structural damage, while adjacent homes suffered serious structural damage, including loss of roofs and walls. The council was quick to order 7 more cottages after this performance
