LOS CABOS TOURISM BOARD
MEXICO SECURITY DEVELOPMENTS & LOS CABOS STATUS
STAKEHOLDER UPDATE – DAY 2
February 23, 2026
Dear Partners,
We are providing an update regarding recent security-related developments reported in parts of Mexico to ensure you have clear and current information as you communicate with your clients.
Los Cabos has not experienced any operational impact, and all destination operations remain fully normal, including:
· Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) continues to operate on a normal schedule.
· No disruptions to hotel operations, ground transportation, or visitor services.
· Baja California Sur and Los Cabos were not named in any U.S. Embassy security alert.
· The U.S. State Department advisory for BCS remains at Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution. No changes have been issued.
Los Cabos operates under a permanent, coordinated security framework maintained by municipal, state, and federal authorities in active partnership with the hotel sector and key tourism industry organizations. This year-round operational structure is designed to proactively and consistently protect residents and visitors.
Travel trade publications including Travel Market Report, Travel Off Path, and Travel Mole are confirming that Los Cabos remains unaffected and fully operational. This differentiation is important as we continue reinforcing the geographic and operational distinction between Baja California Sur and the affected states.
Our Los Cabos Tourism Board team continues to:
• Monitor real-time updates and sentiment analysis across media outlets, government advisories, and social channels
• Coordinate actively with airport, airline, and hotel partners to ensure operational alignment and accurate information
• Support proactive and reactive communications on behalf of the Hotel Association, hotels, and industry partners
• Reinforce clear geographic distinction messaging, confirming that Baja California Sur and Los Cabos are separate from the affected states
If you receive client inquiries, please use the following approved language:
“Los Cabos is located in Baja California Sur, a separate state from where these events are occurring, physically separated from mainland Mexico by the Sea of Cortez. The U.S. Department of State has not changed its advisory for this region. All destination operations are fully normal.”
Los Cabos remains fully operational and prepared to welcome travelers. We will provide further updates as necessary and please contact us directly should you require support with client communications or media inquiries.
Thank you for your continued partnership and confidence in Los Cabos.
Sincerely,
Rodrigo Esponda
Managing Director
