Malik Al-Sultan, a 28-year-old freelance digital creator from Al-Aflaj, Saudi Arabia, dreamed of seeing the northern lights for a long time. He had seen pictures and videos of the aurora borealis and wanted to experience it in real life. For over a year, he carefully planned a long journey to make this dream come true.
In December 2025, he finally started his trip. On December 20, he set off on an unusual road journey that would take him across many countries. Instead of flying directly, he chose to travel by road and ferry so he could experience different places along the way.
His journey was long and full of adventure. He drove more than 5,600 miles (9,057 km) and passed through 19 countries over three weeks. The trip was not always easy, but he enjoyed the experience of exploring new cities, cultures, and roads.
During the journey, he made an unexpected stop in London, which he found surprising and enjoyable. From there, he continued his travel and took a ferry from Calais to Dover as part of his route.
After many days of travel, he finally reached Bodø in Norway, the place where he hoped to see the northern lights. When night came, he was lucky to witness the beautiful aurora borealis lighting up the sky.
He described the moment as “amazing” and said all the long travel, effort, and money—around $12,300 (£9,000)—was completely worth it.
For him, the journey itself became just as special as the destination, turning his dream into a memorable real-life adventure across continents.
