MIDA expects more ESG-related investments this year
The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) expects more environmental, social and governance (ESG) investments this year to help the country achieve its overall investment target for 2022.
MIDA chief executive officer Datuk Aham Abdul Rahman said ESG investment not only involves new foreign direct investment (FDI) and domestic direct investment (DDI), but also expands investments by existing companies in Malaysia.
“We are not only referring to new investments coming to Malaysia, but also companies already operating here. Multinational corporations (MNCs) already operating in Malaysia must ensure that when exporting products, they must be ESG compliant.
“We are here to support these multinational companies in making them ESG-compliant. We want to have all the policies, facilitation and support in place to ensure Malaysia is ready to accept new greenfield investments in the coming years,” he said at the MIDA Network Event It was in line with the National Investment Aspiration (NIA), told the media after meeting with the Malaysia ESG Agenda Group.
He added that there are many untapped opportunities in services related to renewable energy, energy efficiency, electric vehicle (EV) support services, such as EV charging station services, EV charging station operations, and maintenance, repair and Major Repairs, Green Buildings, Green Data Centers, Green Certification and Verification, Green Townships and more.
