2019 Orchard Extension

Finally the threshold of 50 tons NIS was achieved in 2019 which lead to the export of two full 40' containers.

After many years of promises by EDM, the power has finally come up the mountain and we were able to get our own connection. Huge thanks to our neighbours @ Valley of Macs for driving the project.

Due to our remote location, we chose to have the machinery built into two converted containers and delivered by crane truck as plug & play.
Bar some minor bumps along the way from Nelspruit, all arrived safely and in perfect working condition and just in time for the harvest.

An additional 4500 Beaumont nursery trees were planted in 2011, thus bringing the total orchard to 10'000 trees.

Having ripped and roamed lime into the lines the first trees were planted with some fertiliser as well as a few shovels of local cow manure. Basins were dug and the trees watered by drag line for the first two years until the micro sprinklers were installed.

Our first 5500 nursery trees arrived by refrigerated truck from Nelspruit to Catandica. There they needed to be cross loaded onto a 7 ton truck in order to get up the 21km hill and then again onto landcruiser to be transported to the fields. It was a wet and muddy ordeal, but ideal conditions for the thirsty trees.

Using locally available materials such as farm made bricks and stone from the hills, initially two simple structures were built whilst we worked on the homestead "Imba Matombo"
