I almost stopped this business because of one embarrassing moment…
I still remember that day clearly.
A customer came to buy rice, beans, crayfish and garri. She looked serious, like someone that doesn’t joke with her money.
She priced everything… I calculated confidently.
Then she said,
“Are you sure this is correct?”
I smiled, “Yes ma.”
She brought out her phone calculator and started punching numbers.
Next thing…
“Ahh! You added ₦1,500 extra 😳”
My heart dropped.
People around started looking.
As if it was a setup.
That moment? I felt like disappearing.
I quickly apologized but then recalled that her sister already took crayfish to go grind.
I told her and we corrected it, but the damage to my confidence was already done.
That evening, I sat down and asked myself what if it was truly a miscalculation?
From that day, i started double-checking every calculation.
I became more transparent with pricing.
I even learned how to break down costs clearly for customers.
Today?
That same “mistake” made me better.
Now my customers trust me so much that some of them don’t even calculate again. They just say, calculate na I trust you.
Listen…
In this foodstuff business, you will make mistakes. You will feel embarrassed. You will doubt yourself.
But don’t stop.
Because the difference between those who succeed and those who quit is simple:
One learned… the other gave up.
So if you’ve ever had a “bad market day”…
You’re not failing, You’re learning✅
And your breakthrough might just be hiding inside that mistake.
