Title
Allah Knows What Is Hidden and What Is Open
Arabic:
أَوَلَا يَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ مَا يُسِرُّونَ وَمَا يُعْلِنُونَ
Transliteration:
Awalā ya‘lamūna anna Allāha ya‘lamu mā yusirrūna wa mā yu‘linūn
Translation:
Do they not know that Allah knows what they conceal and what they declare?
Simple Tafsir Explanation:
Allah is addressing those who thought they could deceive others—and even Allah—by hiding the truth or speaking differently in private and public. This verse reminds them that Allah’s knowledge is complete and perfect. Nothing is hidden from Him: not intentions, not secret discussions, not inner thoughts.
In the context of earlier verses, some from the Children of Israel were pretending to believe when with the Muslims, but privately denying or distorting the truth. Allah exposes the futility of such behavior by affirming His absolute knowledge.
This verse is also a universal reminder: sincerity matters because Allah sees beyond appearances.
Lesson:
Hypocrisy is pointless because Allah knows the heart. True faith requires honesty with Allah before honesty with people.
Practical Tips:
1. Regularly examine your intentions before actions—especially acts of worship.
2. Avoid double standards: be the same person in private as you are in public.
3. When tempted to hide wrongdoing, remember that concealment from people is not concealment from Allah.
Reflection:
If Allah already knows what is hidden in your heart, what would change about your actions today if you lived fully aware of that reality?
Corresponding Hadith:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Indeed, actions are judged by intentions, and every person will get the reward according to what he intended.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim):
This hadith directly supports the verse: Allah judges not only what we do openly, but what we intend inwardly.
Dua:
O Allah, purify our hearts from hypocrisy, make our private selves better than our public appearance, and grant us sincerity in all that we do.
