BREAKING NEWS

EDO STATE GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES “PROJECT EDU RESCUE” – FROM STREETS TO SCHOOL

In a bold and compassionate move to reshape the future of Edo State’s children, the Edo State Government has officially launched Project Edu Rescue — a flagship initiative aimed at significantly reducing the number of out-of-school children across the state.
The programme was officially flagged off by Senator Monday Okpebholo.

Speaking at the launch, Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to ensuring every child in Edo State has access to quality education, in safe, well-equipped schools, taught by qualified teachers.

Project Edu Rescue is a direct and urgent response to the rising number of out-of-school children seen daily in markets, on the streets, and in public spaces during school hours. The programme’s goal is simple yet powerful: locate these children, understand their challenges, and provide immediate pathways back into school and towards a brighter future.

The launch marks a turning point in the government’s broader vision for human capital development, with education at its core. Governor Okpebholo’s active participation at the event sent a strong message — that getting every child off the streets and into school is a top priority for this administration.

The initiative began with a pilot phase, involving community outreach, direct identification of vulnerable children, and engagement with families. It is now set to expand statewide across all 18 local government areas, led by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with key education partners and stakeholders.

At the helm of this transformative project is Dr. Emmanuel Paddy IyamuEdo State’s Commissioner for Education, whose leadership continues to drive meaningful reforms to ensure no child is left behind.

Project Edu Rescue is more than an initiative, it is a lifeline, a promise, and a future secured through education.

Together, We Must Rise Against Drug Abuse

Today, as the world observes the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, I join Hon Murphy Osaro Omoruyi, Member representing Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency, in lending my voice to this critical and emotional cause.

Drug abuse is not just a statistic—it’s a heartbreaking reality that affects real lives, families, and futures. In our communities, especially with the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital right here in our constituency, the impact is raw and visible. Young people are losing their way, families are broken, and entire communities are hurting.

This fight is not just about cracking down on crime—it’s about restoring hope, protecting our youth, and rebuilding communities. We must commit to creating a society where young people are empowered to dream and succeed—free from the chains of addiction.

I stand with parents, educators, health workers, youth advocates, and every concerned Nigerian. Let’s raise our voices, take meaningful action, and support those on the road to recovery.

Together, we can fight and win this war.

FOR TWO POWER-PACKED DAYS, AFRICA’S LEADING VOICES WILL CONVERGE TO ASK THE HARD QUESTIONS AT ICAD 2025

Some of the burning questions on the table include:

Who will fund Africa’s development?

How can the continent achieve food security and health sovereignty without depending on the Global North?

When will Africa stop importing neoliberal policies and start defining its own path?

Why is free movement still a challenge for Africans within Africa?

What’s the sustainable roadmap to lift over 490 million Africans out of poverty?

The International Conference on Africa’s Democracy (ICAD) 2025 will bring together over 350 African leaders, policymakers, thought leaders, faith actors, researchers, social innovators, civil society representatives, and youth leaders to challenge the status quo and reimagine governance and development through African lenses.

DO YOU WANT TO BE IN THE ROOM with Prof. PLO Lumumba, H.E. Goodluck Jonathan, H.E. Amina J. Mohammed, Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, and other influential changemakers?

Edo Literary Society Joins the Call for Youth-Led Educational Reform!
We are proud to announce the submission of our policy proposal to the National Youth Conference (Confab) 2025 under the theme: “Education and Seven-Star Skills”

Our proposal champions the revitalization of Literary, Debating, Dramatic and Quiz Societies (LDDQS) in secondary schools as a national strategy to foster communication, creativity, critical thinking, and leadership among young Nigerians.

We believe that equipping students with these life-changing skills isn’t just necessary — it’s urgent.
This is our call to action. This is our contribution to Nigeria’s future.
