TOPIC: What does "Beacon" mean, and why should you care?

A lot of people hear things like...

"The beacon is missing."

"Have you checked the beacon?"

"The surveyor will place the beacon."

And they'll just be nodding their head...

Meanwhile, they don't even know what a beacon is.

Let's simplify it for you...

WHAT IS A BEACON?

A beacon is simply a physical marker placed on the ground to show the exact boundary of your land.

Think of it like this...

Your survey plan is the map.

The beacon is what helps that map point to the exact land on the ground.

Without the beacon...

How will somebody know where your own plot starts...

And where your neighbour's own ends?

That's the work of a beacon.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

Imagine buying a plot of land today...

Five years later, you come back ready to build...

If the beacons are still there...

Your surveyor can easily identify your exact boundaries.

But if they're missing...

You'll likely need another survey to relocate them before construction starts.

That's extra time...

And extra money you probably didn't plan for.

CAN A BEACON DISAPPEAR?

Yes ooo..

Construction around the area...

Road grading...

Flooding...

Or even people removing them without knowing what they are...

First of all...

Don't panic...

Losing your land documents **does not automatically mean you've lost your land.**

Those are two completely different things.

Your documents are proof of ownership...

But if they get lost, there are ways to replace or recover them.

Now...

What you can do depends on **the type of document** that was lost.

For example...

If it's your **payment receipt**, the company you bought the land from may still have a copy in their records.

If it's a **Deed of Assignment** or other registered documents...

You may be able to apply for a replacement or obtain certified copies, depending on how the documents were processed and registered.

This is one of the reasons we always tell people...

**Don't keep only one copy of your land documents.**

Photocopy them.

Scan them.

Save digital copies in your email or cloud storage.

Keep another copy somewhere safe.

You may never need them...

But if anything ever happens...

You'll be glad you did.

Another important thing...
