BE GUIDED

Just last week, a friend was talking to me about another friend of his who lost N100,000 to an investment.

I simply asked him what the investment was all about and he could not give any concrete explanation. The only thing he knew was that when you put in N100,000, you will get 35% (i.e 135,000) back at the end of 1 month.

That made me smile.

Well, I told him that his friend didn't invest, what he did was gambling. He only paid for the lack of financial literacy and allowed himself to be scammed.

As a rule of thumb;

1. Only Invest in what you understand.
Do not put your money in any investment that you do not understand the model. What activity is your money being put into to generate the returns to you?

2. Invest only with registered & regulated companies or individual as the case may be.

3. If the return is too good to be true, it usually leads to sorrow. ‘High returns in a short period of time‘ is very tempting.

4. If you are being pressured to make the decision and pay your money quickly. It is a warning sign.
A legitimate operator will give you adequate time to review the documents and if need be consult with your adviser.

5. Follow your guts. Do not go with the crowd. In investing, the fact that a crowd is doing something should in no way persuade you to do it.

3% return on investment is better than losing your hard earned money.
