Kwara South deserves to produce Governor come 2027.

Since news filtered in via the DG of NOA, Lanre Isa Onilu, that President Bola Tinubu has endorsed Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa (BOB) as the APC consensus candidate for the Kwara State gubernatorial election, some disgruntled APC leaders from Central have discredited his choice with the argument that the party will lose with a candidate from the South.

Olukayode Thomas not only debunks these claims but also proposes alternatives for the South and North should the APC decide to pick a candidate from Central to succeed Abdulrahman Abdulrasak, who is from the same zone.

Introduction

It is the season of political correctness, when the majority of Kwarans abhor speaking truth to power because of stomach infrastructure and other crass reasons.

The following men and woman of honour — Issa Ezekiel Benjamin, a former Speaker of the Kwara House of Assembly (1999–2003); Adetiba-Olanrewaju Raphael Olalekan, a former Deputy Speaker; Mary Ebun Oyeleye, an APC elder; and Ladi Mustapha, a former APC State Legal Adviser — deserve flowers from Kwarans who cherish equity, fairness, and justice for the rare courage they have shown in speaking the truth at a time when being deceptive is lucrative and rewarding.

In an open letter to President Bola Tinubu published recently in a national newspaper, Benjamin and his colleagues not only exposed what they described as the falsehood that Kwara South is a political liability to the APC, but they also debunked the claims making the rounds that Kwara Central is the voting powerhouse of the APC in the state.

Deploying verifiable figures and data, they argued that Kwara South has been the strongest pillar of APC victories in Kwara State since 2015.

AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU: SEPARATING FACTS FROM FICTION IN KWARA STATE
From Omo Ibile Igbomina

Your Excellency,

As Kwara State prepares for its upcoming political season, the need for a stable, unified, and strategically aligned party structure has never been more apt. To ensure the continued progress of our great party and the nation, we must base our decisions on verifiable electoral realities and a leadership model that resonates with the grassroots across all three senatorial districts.

A review of the 2023 general elections underscores the unwavering loyalty of the Kwara electorate to the APC. Contrary to false narratives, the data confirms a widespread mandate where Kwara South delivered the highest APC vote share at 68.5%, while Kwara North secured a robust 62.1%, and Kwara Central maintained a strong 54.3%.

These figures demonstrate that while each district is vital, Kwara South serves as the fulcrum, a powerhouse of the APC’s electoral strength. This loyalty is rooted in a deep-seated cultural and political alignment with the progressive ideals of your administration, proving that the South is an indispensable pillar of our party's success in the state.

Kwara State’s strength lies in its rich heritage and the indigenous identity that binds its people together. While we celebrate our diversity, the core of Kwara’s political consciousness is deeply rooted in its Yoruba heritage, which stretches across the state from the heart of the Central district to the northern reaches of the state.

A strategic approach to Kwara must recognize this majority identity, though not to create division, but to foster unity. Our goal is to ensure that every citizen feels represented by a leadership that understands their history and shares their aspirations for a secure, prosperous, and culturally grounded future.

A proper understanding of this cultural identity is crucial for anyone making strategic decisions about Kwara's future. The people, parti

BOB is coming to make a different!

Since the creation of Kwara State over 50 years ago. Regrettably, the state has been on stand still.

Few states created after Kwara State has recorded a tremendous achievements.

Have you asked yourself why Kwara State has never produced the overall Best student in any WAEC & JAMB examinations ?

There's no single Foreign Firm/lndustries in Kwara State that we can point out to.

I looked around if l can see an Uncommon Innovations of international standards, non on ground. What a state that's deliberately refuses to meet up to global standard? Oh! It is true, you can't give what you don't have!

Nothing to show for my state in terms of sports development but rather they assembled the youths in a corner around Challenge for 'Sales and Repair' of GSM. This guy's are skillful, physically fits for sports but the environment never welcome their ideas. Omase o!

BREAKING: BOLA AHMED TINUBU DECLINES MEETING REQUEST FROM GOVERNOR ABDULRAHMAN ABDULRAZAQ DURING OVERSEAS TRIP

It’s difficult to believe that Bola Ahmed Tinubu would deliberately shut out a sitting governor like AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. In politics, access is not a dead end, it’s a network. If one route doesn’t work, others always exist.

What we are seeing looks more like pressure than rejection. A leader pushing hard for a personal consensus, different from the presidency’s direction, will naturally meet resistance. Politics is like a football match, you can’t keep playing your own game plan and expect the other side not to defend/change tactics.

The DENIED ACCESS narrative feels exaggerated. If the governor truly wants to meet the President, he will. That is how power works. So when such headlines appear, they sound more dramatic than realistic, almost like saying the sun refused to rise.

This is not about access. It’s about alignment and in politics, alignment decides who gets heard. Governor AbdulRahman appears to be in a state of confusion and frankly, the unfolding situation seems likely to deepen that uncertainty

A political commentator and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been urged to support the emergence of a governorship candidate from Kwara South ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Kwara State.

In a lengthy political commentary titled “2027: Tinubu, Kwara Yorubas, and the Burden of History,” Hakeem Olayinka Olaosebikan argued that the 2027 election presents a defining moment for President Tinubu, particularly in addressing long-standing calls for political inclusion by Yoruba communities in Kwara State.

Olaosebikan alleged that narratives surrounding insecurity in parts of Kwara South and Kwara North were being politicised to weaken the argument for power rotation to the district. According to him, recent security challenges in local government areas such as Ifelodun, Ekiti and Kaiama should not be used as justification to deny Kwara South the governorship ticket of the APC.

He claimed that some political actors in Ilorin were promoting the idea that a candidate from Kwara South would struggle electorally due to insecurity in the region, an argument he described as “propaganda of weakness.”

The writer further maintained that the political influence of President Tinubu remains strong enough to guarantee victory for any candidate endorsed by the APC in Kwara State, dismissing fears that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could reclaim the state through an Ilorin-based candidate allegedly backed by former Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

Olaosebikan also referenced growing political speculations linking Senator Saliu Mustapha to alleged efforts to secure support from influential associates of President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 race. He, however, noted that such claims remain part of ongoing political conversations in the state.

According to him, many Yoruba communities in Kwara believe decades of political and economic concentration in Ilorin have contributed to the marginalisation of other

Bolarinwa Submits APC Governorship Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms in Abuja

Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa, PhD, on Saturday submitted his expression of interest and nomination forms to contest for the office of Kwara State Governor at the APC National Secretariat, Abuja.

Bolarinwa submitted APC Governorship Nomination Forms with his credentials to the National Organising Secretary of the Party, Alhaji Sulaiman Mohammed Argungu.

His words: "It is my wish, by the grace of God, to improve the quality of life and health of our people. Most importantly, insecurity has taken over many parts of the state – Kwara North and Kwara South, where I come from – with several communities now deserted due to bandit attacks, leading to a humanitarian crisis.
“This is an issue that must be tackled head-on and will top our agenda,” he said.
