As you're making money, be sure you're building valuable contacts and connections along your way. There are places your money can take you to the gate, but only your professional or personal connections will allow you enter inside.
I wanted to share this, because I strongly believe many young people like myself will benefit from this little life hack. On one hand, some ask how they can get connected to important people in the society if they're from a poor background and seemingly don't have anything to offer.
Here's a reply worth sharing with your friends from the Son of Nebu.
At some point in your life, you'll be opportuned to work for a person of means; someone with important connections in society. You may be required to do one job or process something for this individual.
Do good work and collect less pay. But be sure the person knows you collected less. That is one way and this is the harder way, because the person would suspect you may have an endgame. Important people often smell it from miles away when someone is trying too hard to get close.
A much easier way to gain access to this connection can happen if the important individual is a generous tipper. Maybe after doing the work, the person tips you a little amount above your pay. That is a good sign you can build something on top the official relationship.
Use that tip and get them something related to whatever job you're doing for them. If your link to them is their assistant or secretary, then get it for the assistant. Most times, they leave certain decisions to their aides to take care of and if you're in good terms with them, you'll slowly build up your profile.
Real opportunities happen before they're made public. In fact many times, people only make an opportunity public when they can't find someone within their circle to handle it. (This doesn't include public companies or government entities required by law to publish opportunities. But even at that, they still play the insider game in some cases.)
My team and I will be launching a web series next month (March) and we didn't have to search long for someone to play the role of Vanessa. I wanted to make the opportunity public but first, I decided to search in my circle to know if someone fits into the role before I made the opportunity public. Turns out I found a perfect match so I didn't publicise it again.
Stop complaining and build your circle. What talent or skill do you have? Offer it to upwardly mobile and progressive people. They may not take note immediately, but overtime, if you're consistent and good, they'll take notice.
