I remember when I first started learning automation.
After every class where we built an automation, especially using APIs, I would go straight to my laptop and try to recreate the exact workflow on my own. I would carefully add the same modules, follow the same steps, and configure everything exactly as I had seen during the lesson.
Yet somehow, it wouldn't work.
I would stare at my screen asking myself:
"Didn't I add the same modules?"
"Didn't I follow the same steps?"
"Why am I getting errors?"
"Why isn't the data passing to the next module?"
The lessons were correct. The process was correct. The problem was that I was missing small configuration details that I didn't yet understand.
There were many nights when I stayed awake troubleshooting for hours, determined to figure things out. I could have easily asked my coach for the answer, and he would have pointed me in the right direction.
But I wanted to understand the problem myself.
I wanted to know why it wasn't working and why the solution worked once I found it.
After countless hours of testing, breaking things, fixing them, and trying again, everything finally clicked.
That process taught me far more than simply following tutorials ever could. It helped me develop a deep understanding of APIs, including GET, POST, PUT, and DELETE requests, and how they power modern automation.
Recently, a client reached out to me on X (formerly Twitter) with a project that required scraping property data from specific locations in the United States using the Zillow API.
I immediately got to work, successfully extracted the required data, and delivered the project ahead of schedule. The client was extremely impressed with the results.
Completing that project reminded me of those early days:
Learning.
Practicing.
Failing.
Troubleshooting.
Learning again.
Every hour spent figuring out those errors prepared me for opportunities like this.
The lesson?
Don't underestimate the value of struggling through a problem. Sometimes the troubleshooting process teaches you more than success itself.
Today, I help businesses automate processes, integrate APIs, build AI-powered workflows, and create systems that save time, reduce manual work, and improve operational efficiency.
