Congratulations to retired Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ) volunteer Bill Lowis who has been recognised with an Order of Australia Medal on the King’s Birthday Honours List for his service to the Burdekin community over many decades.
Bill volunteered with the Cape Upstart Rural Fire Brigade for about 30 years, earning the State Medal and Clasp for service to QFD.
He was instrumental in protecting the Cape Upstart area through hazard reduction burning and improved access.

Congratulations also to Inspector Justin Robinson, currently working in RFSQ’s Landscape Fire Policy area, who has received the Conspicuous Service Cross for his achievements in the Australian Army.
Justin recently completed his tenure as Commanding Officer of the 25th/49th Royal Queensland Regiment in the Australian Army Reserve.
His extensive military service has included leading capability development, preparedness and readiness initiatives, supporting domestic operations, and strengthening partnerships between Defence and emergency management agencies.

✨ Today our family celebrates a very special man. ✨

Congratulations to my dad, Bill Lowis, on being awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to local government and to the community of the Burdekin Shire.

A special highlight of the day was hearing Dad chat with Michael Clarke on the ABC Breakfast Show. This is 7 wonderful minutes that we got to hear the humble, genuine gentleman we’ve been lucky enough to call Dad, all our lives.

Dad has never sought recognition. He simply sees a job that needed doing and gets on with it. Whether serving in the Navy, supporting veterans and our community, helping manage our natural resources, responding to disasters, volunteering with the SES, or serving as Mayor, he has spent a lifetime quietly contributing to the place and people he loves and calls home.

Those who know Dad, know he is a humble man of integrity, duty, and service. He is the kind of person who turns up, works hard, and puts our family, and others, before himself.

On behalf of my family, we couldn’t be prouder.

Congratulations Dad. This recognition is richly deserved and reflects a lifetime of service to your community, your country, and your family.

Happy 57th Wedding Anniversary to you and Mum for yesterday.

Tonight I had the privilege of attending the Pitch Night at JCU, hosted by the incredible team at Smart Precinct NQ. It was an evening filled with courage, creativity, and the kind of entrepreneurial spirit that reminds me why small business has always lit my fire. 🔥

I got to watch a selected group of NQ entrepreneurs and business owners take the stage in front of a crowd of around 100 people to share their ideas, dreams, businesses, and bold visions for the future. It takes guts to stand up and back yourself publicly like that.

One of those special people was my new lil business sister, Deb from .official And honestly… As a devoted journaller, and keeper of all things sentimental, I could not be more proud of what she is building for families. Watching Deb step onto the stage with heart, honesty, and fierce determination to make a difference in the world was a beautiful thing to witness. Congratulations to everyone who not only pitched, but showed up to support events like these. The crowd really lifted the experience for everyone. 🙌

From little things, big things grow. 🌱✨

On New Year’s Eve 2024, I made a promise to my daughter, Makkedde, that I would write her a love note every single day for the year ahead.

Little did I know that 2025 would become one of the most profound years of my life filled with love, adventure, grief, joy, loss, healing, major surgery, and six months recovering after breaking my arm.

Thank God for my old trusty dictaphone, because somewhere amongst the chaos, heartbreak, fun, travels, random wisdom, beautiful moments and the ordinary days, I wrote “Her Seasons - 365 love letters to my daughter”. Only two copies exist. One for her. One for me.

Its filled with love notes on life - grief, joy, womanhood, friendship, travel, heartbreak, resilience, and all the tiny beautiful moments that woven into the threads of my days that would have otherwise disappeared into time. I didn’t write them perfectly. I actually paused in November when the loss of my second fur baby within months of each other brought me to my knees. Then one day, after the grief and sadness lifted, I picked the pen back up and finished what I had started.

I’m sharing this publicly, because I didn’t intend on writing a book, but the promise and daily practice became a masterpiece, which I am immensely proud of.

My copy sits beside my bed, and maybe one day, a version of it will find its way into the world, because even now, I find myself reopening random pages and thinking… thank god I am Makkeddes mother, and how lucky I am to have shared so many beautiful words of wisdom with her, and my future grandchildren. ❤️

Look what arrived! 👀 📖 😍

I am one of those lucky people that has always been able to write easily. It’s truly a gift to be able to put my imagination and ideas down in ink on paper. And although writing has come easy to me, it was always in a business context. I published my own business magazine in the early 2000’s (before Al was even a thing) and I’ve written content for websites, courses, podcasts and self-published a series of business workbooks, so writing my first novel has felt like the most natural extension of who l am.

Today, I officially finished editing the author copy of Mates to Men: The Silver Link Story.
It was practice for me. It’s written for my dad. (Not for the public..soz!)

There is something deeply powerful about holding my own authentic, imperfect words in ink on paper.

So, if you’ve been sitting on a manuscript, a memoir, a family story... this is your reminder you don’t need to be a best selling author to bring it to life. Our stories deserve to exist off-screen too. 🫶 ✍️ 📚

What a moment for and North Queensland’s entrepreneurial community. The has dedicated six full pages in this weekend’s paper to the incredible women of the Female Founders program, and I couldn’t be prouder to part of the mentoring board to such determined, creative, and courageous business owners. I have the privilege of working alongside these entrepreneurs as they build and grow their businesses. Programs like this provide something that is still far too rare for small business owners. This particular program offers genuine support, guidance, and accountability as they move through the business ownership lifecycle, from idea and startup through to growth and long term success. There is truly nothing else quite like it in our region, seeing these women recognised publicly is a powerful reminder that when communities invest in founders, innovation and opportunity flourish. It’s an honour to be part of something so inspiring. 🌟

Oh, Postbox joy. 🎶 📮
Paper joy. 🎶 📝

For those of you who know me well, you know how much I love sending and receiving snail mail.

I’m so glad these two letters arrived on the same day.

One came from a friend in Australia, written on beautiful handmade paper and each page felt as thoughtful as the words themselves.

The other travelled all the way from France… my very first letter from the Mail Club at in Paris.

Two envelopes. Different journeys. Paper. Ink. Stamps. A small reminder of how much joy there still is in snail mail. 🐌 ✉️ 💓

Today in Auckland, I was reminded twice just how much our small actions shape someone else’s day.

First, I was served in a bookshop by a young girl who was wiping away tears after a customer had pointed her finger and raised her voice at her.. In my eyes, it was totally unacceptable behaviour and it absolutely broke me seeing it all unfold. So, I stepped in and told the rude customer that the staff member was doing their best, and even if they weren’t, there’s never a reason to be so aggressive. Well… that didn’t go down well and she spat and cursed at me before storming out.

Did I do the right thing interfering? I honestly don’t know. The young girl was grateful, and the other customers in the store were a little bewildered. In the moment it felt necessary for me to say something; in hindsight, given that I copped the same abusive reaction from this absolute s**t head, maybe silence would’ve been easier. But I’m wired a certain way… and if you’re still reading this, you probably are too. Some of us just can’t walk past behaviour like that without saying something to balance it out.

A little later, I found a mobile phone sitting on a park bench on High Street in central Auckland. I picked it up, took it to the nearest store, and with the help of two lovely guys, we managed to track down the owner. Should I have just left it there? Or did I do the right thing picking it up? A small act has consequences, but in my mind, if I hadn’t picked it up, someone less honest might have.

People are people.
People have feelings.
And people rely on the goodness of people more than we realise.

Two tiny moments between strangers.
Both reminders that we’re all just human beings trying to get through the day.

These things ripple.

No big message.
No moral to the story.

I just needed to say it.

Love,
Kirsten
