Debbie asked: “Do I need to contribute toward a boundary fence if there isn’t one?”

Short answer: Yes. The occupiers of adjoining properties must share the cost of work on boundary fences equally, unless there is an existing fencing covenant against the title, or the parties agree that their contributions will not be equal.

Process:

First, talk to your neighbour and see if you can agree about sharing the costs of the work.

If the neighbour will not agree to pay, you’ll need to issue a fencing notice in accordance with section 10 of the Fencing Act 1978.

On average, New Zealand homeowners sell their homes every 5.5 years. Therefore, it's more relevant to report that the 5-year average annual growth (HPI) sits at 3.2% per annum for Auckland. 📈

Despite an increase in stock levels, the total number of properties sold in New Zealand has risen by 14.5% compared to this time last year.
