I know this might sound strange coming from a property stylist, but not everyone needs my help.

Take my mum, for example.

She has loved green for as long as I can remember. Green curtains, green couches, green pillows, green towels… and yes, there used to be green carpet too.

Would I choose all of that? No.

Would I tell her to rip it all out and start again? Also no.

Because it’s her home. She loves it, she’s comfortable in it, and every time she walks through the door it feels like home. That’s worth more than following the latest trends.

My job isn’t to convince everyone they need a designer.

It’s to help the people who aren’t sure what they like, who feel overwhelmed by choices, or who can’t quite make everything work together.

If you already love your home, then I’ve done my job just by saying… keep enjoying it.

Now… would I gently steer Mum away from lime green these days?

One of the questions I get asked the most is…

“What if my furniture isn’t good enough?”

Most of the time, don’t stress - we can work with what you’ve got.

But every now and then, there’s a piece (like this couch 😂) that’s going to let the whole room down. If that’s the case, I’ll always be honest.

Before buying anything, I suggest borrowing from another room, another house, or even a friend or family member. One furniture swap can completely change a space.

Refined Spaces is a partial staging service, so we work with your existing furniture and elevate it with styling. If those key furniture pieces can’t be swapped, a full staging company may be the better option.

I’d rather be upfront and help you choose the right service than overpromise.

There’s a reasonable chance a lamb will end up at a staging job this spring.

Every year my mum ends up with an orphaned lamb, puts a nappy on it, bottle-feeds it, and basically takes it wherever she goes.

Tomorrow we are doing a staging together

If there’s a lamb wandering around while we’re styling your house… just carry on.
