We came across what we think is a kōtukutuku in the regeneration - the world’s largest fuchsia. We are pretty sure it is because of the flaky bark (hence its name fuchsia excortica) and because it doesn’t have many leaves (one of NZ’s few (only?) semi deciduous trees). We have planted a few of these trees but haven’t had a great survival rate so it’s great to see one has found its own way here and appears to be thriving. We’ll check back in spring to check for flowers.
