𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝗢𝗡 𝗕𝗨𝗧𝗜𝗕𝗔𝗠 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗖𝗥𝗘𝗧𝗘 𝗥𝗗 & 𝗕𝗨𝗠𝗕𝗨 𝟰-𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗘 𝗕𝗥𝗜𝗗𝗚𝗘

I would like to respond to public criticisms over delays to major road and bridge project in the city.

On the Butibum Concrete Road upgrade:
Contractor - Dekenai Construction, had already commenced work, but progress over the past two weeks had been interrupted by heavy rain.

They advised that the last two weeks were affected by rain. Today the weather is clear, so they are back on site working.

The traffic congestion has also slowed construction activities.

On the Bumbu Bridge project:
Contractor and the Department of Works and Highways (DoWH) had advised that tensile testing of the bridge beams and steel is currently underway, while the beams are being manufactured.

I have instructed them to make this project a priority and complete it as soon as possible.

The contractors report directly to me, and in turn I report to the good people of Lae as your mandated leader.

Any concerns or complaints, send them to me. That is my job.

You all have the right to criticise the projects but I urged you to criticize responsibly.

Like all other vital projects in the city, these projects are important and have never been attended to in the last 30 years. Now that we are finally attending to them, we are still being criticised.

Despite recent setbacks caused by persistent rain and traffic congestion, the completed projects would deliver long-term benefits to Lae residents.

In the end, you will have a four-lane bridge, a proper concrete road and less traffic congestion. Patience is needed.
