PAMPANGA CHURCH ELEVATED TO MINOR BASILICA STATUS

ANGELES CITY, Pampanga – The Holy Rosary Parish, widely known as Pisamban Maragul, marked a historic milestone on Tuesday, June 10, with the solemn proclamation of its elevation to the rank of Minor Basilica, becoming one of the Catholic Church’s distinguished houses of worship in the Philippines.

The celebration was highlighted by the civic and liturgical reception for His Excellency Most Rev. Charles J. Brown, D.D., Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, who presided over key rites that included the Kissing of the Cross, the Prayer of the Apostolic Nuncio, the Blessing of the People, and the unveiling of the Minor Basilica marker.

Joining Brown in the ceremonies were Most Rev. Florentino G. Lavarias, D.D., Archbishop of San Fernando, and Rev. Fr. Manuel C. Sta. Maria, parish priest of Holy Rosary Parish.

Local officials also attended the event, including Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II and Pampanga First District Representative Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., underscoring the significance of the occasion for both the Church and the local community.

The elevation of Holy Rosary Parish to a Minor Basilica recognizes its spiritual, historical, and pastoral importance to the faithful. The designation grants the church a special bond with the Vatican and affirms its role as a center of worship and pilgrimage in Central Luzon.

Church leaders described the proclamation as a moment of thanksgiving and renewal, inviting the faithful to deepen their devotion and commitment to the mission of the Church.
