The proposed Boracay Bridge project is advancing after the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) selected San Miguel Holdings Corporation as the developer, despite continued opposition from local officials and residents in Aklan.

The project seeks to link Boracay Island to mainland Aklan through a permanent bridge, replacing the current reliance on boats from Caticlan.

Proponents said the bridge would improve accessibility, boost tourism efficiency, and strengthen logistics, especially during bad weather when sea travel becomes difficult or suspended.

However, the plan has drawn significant concern from Aklan stakeholders who warn of potential environmental and socio-economic impacts.
