Davao City Bus Makes Historic First Crossing at the New Bucana Bridge
In a symbolic moment for Davao City’s ongoing transformation, the new Davao City Bus successfully made a historic test crossing today at the New Bucana Bridge, a major centerpiece of the Coastal Road project.
Although the bridge is not yet open to the public and is scheduled for inauguration this December, the sight of the modern city bus rolling across its elegant cable-stayed structure offered a powerful preview of what’s ahead for the city.
The test run marks a significant step toward integrating the upcoming Bus Rapid Transit–style service with the expanding coastal infrastructure. The New Bucana Bridge—stretching across the mouth of the Davao River—promises to ease congestion in the southern corridor, open new urban linkages, and finally complete one of the most anticipated segments of the Coastal Road.
For many Davaoeños, the moment feels like a glimpse into the city’s future: efficient mass transport, world-class engineering, and a more connected metropolitan Davao.
Soon, this bridge will not just carry vehicles—it will carry progress.
