The Samal Island-Davao City Connector (SIDC) Bridge, also known as the DavSam Bridge, has reached 61 percent completion, with construction moving into its next major phase despite funding constraints.

“We are on our way to the superstructure. The columns that people can already see have been completed, and we have finished that phase. We are now working on the upper portion,” DPWH-11 spokesperson Dean Ortiz said.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said construction has transitioned from the foundation works to the bridge’s superstructure, with columns now rising above the Pakiputan Strait.

Under the 2026 National Expenditure Program, the project was proposed to receive ₱4.87 billion, but only ₱314 million was allocated under the final General Appropriations Act, prompting DPWH to request additional funding. The agency has said the current completion target is September 2028, although it could be extended to September 2030 if funding constraints persist.

The ₱23.039-billion, 4.76-kilometer toll-free, four-lane extradosed bridge will connect R. Castillo–Daang Maharlika in Davao City to the Samal Circumferential Road. Once completed, it is expected to cut travel time between Davao City and Samal Island from 30 to 50 minutes by ferry to about five minutes by land.

DIVERSION–TIGATTO BYPASS ROAD

This infrastructure is expected to ease traffic congestion in the surrounding areas, particularly at the busy Milan intersection. Its opening is also timely, as it precedes the planned closure of the Buhangin underpass on April 17, 2026, which will undergo nearly a month of rehabilitation giving motorists a convenient alternative route during the period.

The map on DavaoTraffic.com uses real-time traffic data from OpenStreetMap and Mapbox. It’s different from Google Maps, so what you see might not always be the same. Each map service collects traffic info from different sources like GPS data, partner apps, and public reports — that’s why colors can vary.

What makes DavaoTraffic unique is that it also relies on real people in Davao sharing what they see. So the more locals who contribute, the clearer and more accurate it becomes. 😊
