Reason #3: No permit means no oversight. 🏗️
A building permit is not bureaucratic paperwork. It is the mechanism through which the government reviews your design and inspects your construction.
When it's skipped or obtained through shortcuts:
→ Plan review by the Building Official is bypassed
→ No mandatory stage inspections at foundation, framing, and roof levels
→ Certificate of Occupancy is never issued — or worse, issued without actual inspection
→ Violations go undetected until the structure fails
Many buildings begin construction before permits are released. LGUs are often understaffed. Inspections happen on paper more than on site.
Every uninspected building is a building we are trusting on faith alone.

No Soil Investigation

What lies beneath a building matters just as much as what stands above it.

Without proper soil investigation, foundations may be built on unstable ground — leading to cracks, uneven settlement, and structural failure over time.

Every site has its own conditions, risks, and limitations. Understanding the ground before construction begins is not optional, it’s essential.

At RAL Architects, strong foundations begin with informed decisions from the ground up.

Day 2 — Flawed Structural Design

A building’s strength begins long before construction starts.
It starts with the decisions made on paper.

When structural design is flawed, even the most visually impressive architecture can become vulnerable over time. Miscalculations, overlooked loads, and poor planning can compromise safety, stability, and longevity.

At RAL Architects, design is more than aesthetics, it’s precision, responsibility, and creating spaces built to endure.

Because great architecture should never fail where it matters most.

When buildings fall, people often only see the collapse.
But behind every failure is a story of design, decisions, materials, environment, and lessons that shape the future of architecture.

Today marks the beginning of our 9-part series: When Buildings Fall.

At RAL Architects, we believe understanding failure is part of creating structures that last. Through this series, we’ll explore the deeper conversations behind structural collapse, resilience, and responsible design.

This is where the conversation begins.

Hiring technical professionals is the good foundation for your investment.

Building collapse are hard to deal with. There are lives lost and millions of pesos have gone down the drain. But building collapse are 90% preventable by designing, constructing and managing it properly. Hiring technical professionals during design and construction of your building are part of your "investment".

You think having professionals for your project are icing on the top? No, hiring professionals is the good foundation for your invesment.

Your Meralco bill is not the problem. Your house is. 🏠🔥

We build homes that trap heat like a palayok — concrete walls, dark roofs, windows facing the afternoon sun — then blast aircon 24/7 just to survive inside our own homes.

May aircon ka sa kwarto. Wala sa sala. Nag-aaway na kayo kung sino mag-on ng aircon.

Sound familiar?

Here's the thing: the Philippines already had the answer.

🌿 The bahay kubo kept cool with zero electricity.
☀️ Wide eaves blocked the sun before it hit the walls.
💨 Jalousie windows caught every breeze.
🐚 Capiz shells filtered light without trapping heat.

We didn't upgrade. We just forgot.

Swipe to see 5 home design moves that cut the heat — before you even touch the aircon remote. 👉

Save this if you're currently melting inside your own house. 🫠

Nanonood ka ng balita at sabi nila "heat index: 52°C" — tapos lalabas ka pa rin kasi kailangan. 😭

We've been blaming El Niño. We should also be blaming our cities.

Because Manila — and almost every major city in the Philippines — was not designed for humans. It was designed for cars. For concrete. For profit per square meter.

And we are literally paying for it with our bodies.

🌳 We cut the trees that kept streets cool.
🌊 We buried the rivers that cooled the air.
🏚️ We built wall-to-wall concrete with no shade, no breeze, no mercy.

The good news? Other cities have fixed this. And we have something they don't — we already KNOW how to build for the tropics. The bahay kubo knew. The old Escolta portales knew. The ancestral houses in Vigan knew.

We just forgot.

Swipe to see what it looks like when we remember. 👉

Double tap if your commute home felt like a punishment today. 🥵
