I am Yvette, I used to work for the country’s biggest telco but now I am a full-time wife to Aldwin, mom to Brie and Addi, and daughter to Mommy Lina. I am the typical Gen Xer. Pagka graduate ng college, work agad. My parents didn’t really oblige me na magbigay sa kanila pero bilang mabait talaga kong anak (tanungin nyo pa nanay ko, hehehe) nagvovolunteer akong magbigay. I was in my mid 20s when I lost my daddy, so immediately I assumed the role of the family’s breadwinner. Walang complaint, walang question. That time I was happy to be helping my family. I was not really earning much but I was able to finance the renovation of our house and buy furnitures and appliances, pay the monthly bills and groceries, and help in sending my two younger siblings to school. A few years after, I got married. Honestly, hindi namin naisip ng husband ko that time to have our own house, happy naman kami to be living with husband’s family. We still have privacy kase separate house pa din naman. It was when we had our second child, in our mid 30s, that we realized we want to have our own house. At first urong sulong pa because we were scared that we won’t be able to sustain the monthly amortization apart from the downpayment, pero dasal lang and determinashon talaga. Niloan namin sha for 10 years kase ayaw namen ng matagal and initially mahirap but later on, kaya na kase we used it as our inspiration to work hard and it became our reason para maging disciplined kame sa paghandle ng finances. This year, finally, our Carmona house is really ours na. Tapos na ang mortgage, yay! In addition to that, bayad na rin ang mga sasakyan namin, and the kids have enough fund for their education. I can say, we’re now totally debt free!

Now why am I telling this? Because some of you ay pwedeng maka relate sa men. We are just ordinary employees na hindi naman talaga mataas ang sweldo. Just enough para medyo comfortable ang buhay kahet pano. We didnt really have extra money back then pero we still pushed thru with acquiring a house kase we knew na hindi kami makakapag save ng money because of our expenses. Deba nga as we always say, dumadaan lang sa kamay naten yung sweldo, so pano pa makakapag save? Most of the time nga di naten alam kung pano naubos yung pera. So the house. naisip naman, yun na lang ang savings namin. You’re probably in the same situation, you’re probably also scared na mag invest sa property na baka di mo kayanin. Believe me kaya mo yan, basta mayron kang tatlong D - discipline, determination, and devotion kay God. And I’m telling you, habang bata pa, mag invest na. Why?

1. The earlier you start, the earlier na matatapos ka. Who would want to still be paying mortgage ng nearly senior or senior ka na talaga?
2. Safe na mag invest sa real estate. Other investmemts’ value may go skyrocket or go head down the hill because of the economy, politcs, peso inflation/deflation pero ang value ng property tataas at tataas pa din, whether you like it or not.
3. When you avail of a housing loan, it comes with insurance so whatever happens to the acquisitioner, the family will still have the house, fully paid na.
4. When you own a house, you secure yourself and your family a shelter. Anuman ang mangyari you will always have a place to stay.
5. If you’re not ready to move in yet to your new house, pwede mo shang iparent. And the rental will cover your monthly amort, just like what we did. So it’s like someone else is paying your monthly amortization.
6. It can never be stolen from you. Shempre it is under your name. Wala pwedeng umangkin nyan.
7. Having your own house gives you peace of mind. It gives you a sense of fulfillment. Achievement siya kase katas ng pawis, dugo, at luha yan.

Again, wag matakot. Wag idelay. Basta mayron kang tatlong D. While paying the mortgage, nagpapaaral kame ng dalawang bata, nagbabayad monthly ng mga bills, nagmemaintain ng dalawang sasakyan, nagtatravel once to twice a year, at may mga tinutulungang kapamilya at kapuso. We are just ordinary employees pero meron kaming tatlong D and because of that, nakaya namin. Kung kaya namin, kakayanin mo din.
