International Experts Gather in Beijing to Discuss Urban Earthquake Risk Prevention and Resilience

On July 28, experts and scholars from several countries, including the United States, Pakistan, and Russia, gathered in Beijing. Drawing lessons from the devastating Tangshan earthquake, they held in-depth discussions on earthquake-risk prevention and control.
During the exchange, the experts referred to disaster cases from around the world and shared their research findings and practical experience in several areas, including the application of earthquake-resistant engineering technologies, the development of urban disaster-prevention systems, and public education on disaster preparedness.
As global urbanization continues to accelerate, improving cities’ ability to withstand major earthquakes and increasing public awareness of disaster prevention and emergency safety have become common priorities for the international community.
The participating experts agreed that countries should continue strengthening communication and cooperation, sharing advanced technologies and governance experience, and working together to improve their overall capacity to prevent and respond to earthquake disasters.
