How much heat is absorbed by the colour of your facade?

Dark hues like black or deep blue have a tendency to absorb heat more efficiently than lighter hues like white or light blue. This is true because dark hues absorb a greater range of light wavelengths, including those in the heat-producing infrared spectrum. On the other hand, lighter hues reflect more light and heat, keeping the building cooler.
Without understanding the specifics of the building and its location, it is challenging to estimate the precise quantity of heat that a facade absorbs. The orientation of the building, the amount of shading it receives, and the surrounding area can all have an impact on how much heat is absorbed by the facade. Furthermore, the kind of material utilized for the facade can have a big impact on how much heat is absorbed. For instance, a facade constructed of metal or concrete will absorb heat more so than one built of wood or other natural materials.

The research study on "Cooling Asphalt Surfaces" has started with some testing by the Public Authority for Roads in Saudi Arabia, in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality, Rural Affairs, and Housing.
The reason for this experience is that the roads, which can occasionally reach 70 degrees Celsius, absorb the heat from the sun during the day. The techniques also re-release this heat scientifically at night, which results in the "heat island phenomenon," a condition that raises energy demand and air pollution.
The need to address the "heat island phenomenon" arose as a result of an experiment with cold pavements, which are made of a variety of home-made materials with the capacity to reflect solar radiation and, as a result, absorb only small amounts of it, lowering its surface temperature relative to traditional pavements. This type of material is appropriate for highways that encircle residential neighborhoods.
Also, this experiment intends to lower the temperature in residential areas and neighborhoods, use less energy to cool buildings and mitigate the effects of climate change. This technology helps create a more comfortable environment in waiting rooms and other gathering places.

In high-altitude settings, protection from natural hazards is essential to ensuring the wellbeing of the infrastructure and the people that visit and live in mountainous areas.

This powerful testing setup uses cutting-edge technology and engineering to create a sturdy net that can capture large rock falls. This net has a stopping power of 20 tonnes descending from 43 meters at a speed of more than 100 kph. High-quality engineering and innovation for people's safety in high-altitude environments.

We might not be aware of the crucial role expansion joints play in maintaining the safety and longevity of the bridges we drive over on a daily basis. The spaces in between a bridge's various sections known as expansion joints allow the structure to expand and contract in response to temperature variations. Bridges would buckle, warp, and eventually collapse without these joints.

This film offers an intriguing glimpse into the world of bridge building and upkeep and emphasizes the crucial purpose that expansion joints serve in maintaining the safety and functionality of our bridges.

A massive skyscraper named Taipei 101 may be seen in Taiwan's Xinyi District. It has a height of 508 meters and was the highest structure in the world from 2004 until 2010.

The unique engineering that enables Taipei 101 to withstand earthquakes and typhoons is one of its most stunning characteristics.
The structure was built to withstand earthquakes with a Richter scale magnitude of up to 7.0, which is greater than the maximum predicted intensity of earthquakes in the Taipei region.

A mass damper, which is a huge pendulum that helps balance the wobble brought on by heavy winds and earthquakes, is part of the building's novel design.

With a weight of 660 metric tonnes, the mass damper is the biggest of its kind in the entire globe. To counterbalance the building's movement brought on by winds and earthquakes, it is situated on the 92nd level and is capable of moving up to 2 meters in any direction.

There are therefore numerous ways to create a structure earthquake-resistant: we can select one technology over another or more than one, but what matters is actually accomplishing it... save lives as well!

It is essential for precise design and analysis and aids in understanding how structures behave under various support circumstances.

Fixed supports give the structure a rigid link.

Pinned supports prohibit translation but permit rotation

Roller supports are perfect for constructions with multidirectional movement because they permit both rotation and translation.

Building secure and effective structures requires an understanding of these support types and their impacts.

According to current US statistics, scaffolding is high-risk equipment at construction sites and is often located in a hazardous area. Despite recent improvements in work site safety, there are still problems with inspections and oversight. Accuracy of inspections can be compromised by human constraints like exhaustion, distraction, and lack of knowledge.

ConTI Lab's iSAFE platform uses AI and computer vision to monitor work sites in real-time and identify possible hazards and unsafe behaviours before accidents happen. This includes identifying employees who lack the necessary PPE, locating tools and equipment in potentially dangerous areas, and identifying potential unsafe behaviour that could result in fall risks.

Follow ConTI Lab for cutting-edge management techniques for managing building safety.
