Could the 35-year-old HDB age limit for singles finally be lowered?

For many LGBTQ Singaporeans, this is more than just a housing policy discussion — it affects real lives, real relationships, and real plans for the future.

Because when marriage is not an available pathway, many LGBTQ individuals and couples do not have the same access to family-based HDB schemes.

My personal take: I do think the age limit for singles may eventually be lowered. But I don’t think it will happen across all HDB categories immediately.

The first step may likely be younger singles being allowed to apply for 2-room Flexi BTO flats first — giving more singles an earlier path to home ownership, while keeping demand more controlled.

Will it solve everything? No.
But could it be the start of a more inclusive housing conversation? I hope so.
