Finally it’s out, the string of restrictions (or conditions) for the new Prime Location Public Housing (PLH) flats, which refers to new HDB flats to be built in the city centre and surrounding areas, including the Greater Southern Waterfront.

By end of this month🗓, Sept 2021, all banks in Singapore will cease issuing Sibor-linked . (Those familiar with the SOR-pegged home loan packages, these have been taken off the market since July 2017.)

In place would be the Singapore Overnight Rate Average (SORA) as the main interest rate benchmark.

Those currently on the SIBOR-pegged housing loans need not worry as yet cos most housing loans adopt the 1-month or 3-month Sibor benchmarks. These benchmarks would only end sometime in 2024, which is another 3 years from now. Phew! 😅

But if you are currently paying a higher interest rate on your current housing loan say >1.9%, perhaps it is worth to explore switching to a more attractive interest loan package. Should it be a fixed rate, board rate or SORA-pegged rates, there are many options available in the market. Does the lowest interest rate means it’s the right fit for you? Sometimes yes, but not always. It still depends on the loan size, tenure, type of property, your plans etc.
