The years come and go.
What have we done? What haven’t we done?
Is it critical? Yes and no.
Yes, because looking back helps us see what we didn’t do well, and what we can improve.
No, because whatever has happened should not be allowed to weigh us down; If we have done well, we should not rest on our laurels. If we don’t, we should not beat ourselves too hard over it.
2025 has been an eventful year, with new openings and achievements.
It’s also a year where I travelled to quite a number of places. Those trips gave me new perspectives, not just on the world, but on my own life.
In a small, sleepy town in Vietnam, I got a haircut—with a hair wash and even a face wash—for SGD $4. It made me realise that for many Singaporeans, leasing out a property back home and living there could mean a pretty decent life. So while we work so hard here, it made me ask: what’s the eventual destination? How much is enough?
For me, there may not be a final destination so long I can continue to make a difference in the lives of others. And the truth is, you can only create more impact when you are doing well yourself.
So the turn of the year is meaningful to me—not because of the celebration itself, but because it’s a moment to take stock of my life, and a chance to reconnect with the people around me.
Happy New Year.
