A great deal has transpired in our beloved nation, and much continues to unfold before our eyes. These are times that demand sober reflection, national unity, and responsible leadership at all levels of society.

I wish, in particular, to caution our young people and the general public against the growing menace of drug abuse in Sierra Leone. The abuse of harmful substances is destroying lives, weakening families, and undermining the future of our country. No nation can progress when its youth the backbone of its development are trapped in addiction and despair.

I therefore urge parents, community leaders, religious institutions, and government authorities to work together to address this challenge decisively. Let us promote education, discipline, and meaningful opportunities for our young people, while strengthening law enforcement and rehabilitation efforts.

Sierra Leone has endured many trials, and we have always emerged stronger when we chose responsibility over recklessness. Let us do so again, with wisdom, restraint, and an unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of our nation.

Christmas Message from His Excellency Ernest Bai Koroma.

My beloved people of Sierra Leone,

As we approach the sacred season of Christmas, I extend my heartfelt greetings to every Sierra Leonean at home and in the diaspora. Christmas is a time of reflection, sacrifice, forgiveness, and renewed hope. It reminds us that even in humble beginnings, greatness can be born, and even in difficult times, light will always overcome darkness.

Our nation has walked through trials, but we have also witnessed resilience, unity, and an unbreakable spirit among our people. I urge you, especially at this season, to hold fast to peace, love one another beyond tribe, region, or political belief, and to protect the stability of our beloved nation. Sierra Leone is stronger when we stand together.

To our youths, you are the present and the future let discipline, hard work, and patriotism guide your path. To our women, you remain the backbone of our society your sacrifices do not go unnoticed. To our workers, farmers, health professionals, and security forces, I thank you for your service to the nation.

Let this Christmas renew our commitment to national unity, good citizenship, and service to one another. Let us reject violence, hate, and division, and embrace dialogue, tolerance, and mutual respect.

May the birth of Christ bring peace to every home, healing to the broken, hope to the struggling, and wisdom to our leaders.

I wish you all a peaceful Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

God bless you all.
God bless Sierra Leone 🇸🇱

Accra and the Unfinished Dream of a United Africa

Following yesterday’s reflections from the African Unity Summit in Accra, we share selected excerpts from “Accra and the Unfinished Dream of a United Africa,” written by Sheriff Mahmud Ismail, from Accra, Ghana at a moment of renewed continental reckoning.

From the birthplace of Pan-Africanism, the text recalls that this is the soil where Kwame Nkrumah declared that Ghana’s independence was meaningless unless it was bound to the total liberation and unity of Africa, and where he urged the continent to remember: “We face neither East nor West; we face forward.”

“The world already knows how it prefers to deal with Africa, not on Africa’s current terms.”

Referencing the keynote address delivered by former President H.E. Ernest Bai Koroma, the excerpts capture a central paradox of our time: Africa is increasingly engaged as one continent from the outside, yet continues to negotiate from within as fragmented states, forfeiting scale, voice, and influence.

“Disunity is no longer merely an African weakness; it is a global liability in an era defined by scale.”

The text also points to the daily cost of non-unity, fragmented transport systems, inefficient trade routes, and economic barriers that make movement within Africa harder than travel beyond it. These are not abstractions, they are structural penalties that slow growth and weaken solidarity.

Drawing on President Koroma’s own experience of post-conflict recovery and peace consolidation, the excerpts remind us that unity, whether national or continental, is not achieved by declarations, but by confronting divisions deliberately, institutionally, and with political courage.

From Accra, the message is clear: the question before Africa is no longer whether unity is possible, but whether postponing it remains affordable.

If I am to advise my people, I must also remind the incumbent administration to refrain from actions or statements that create uncertainty about our future. We must avoid any form of incitement and instead draw lessons from the positive examples set in the past.

Our citizens deserve a level playing field; one that allows every individual to demonstrate their experience, talents, and commitment to shaping our nation’s development and ensuring inclusive governance.

If you truly believe in the strength of your team, then you must guarantee freedom of speech and create the political space for young people to express their abilities. Only then can they win the confidence and support of the people. If you young people are willing to help the government in development it's important to embrace them than otherwise.

If you stop him, then what kind of development do you truly want for the people of Sierra Leone? He is using his own personal resources to support the nation. He does not work for the government, nor is he seeking a loan from any government institution. All he is asking for is the approval needed to invest in his own country as a citizen. Silencing him is a direct setback to the development and progress of Sierra Leone.

Fellow citizens, members, and supporters of the All People’s Congress,

Our great party has left a remarkable legacy of development in Sierra Leone. At this crucial moment, my message to all of you is simple: remain calm, no matter what. I repeat no matter the circumstances, let us remain calm.

The road ahead is important, and it will take wisdom, discipline, and unity to achieve the success we desire. We are one family, born from the same movement and guided by the same vision. Let no disagreement or misunderstanding divide us. A divided team is a defeated team, and we are far better than that.

Let us set aside our differences and focus our energy on building a better future. Our people need us. It is our collective duty to restore hope and dignity to this beautiful land.

We acknowledge the good that has been done, and we openly recognize the many failures that have affected our nation. While others may hold onto the hope of remaining in power, we possess the right approach, the right strategy, and the right determination to reclaim victory for our people peacefully and honorably.

Yes, we can calm every side with an excellent and disciplined approach, because the results will always reflect the efforts we apply. I urge every member of our party to remain focused, calm, and unmoved by distractions.

Victory will be meaningful only when we fully accept the decision of the people through the delegate conference and stand united behind it.

Together, we will rise again.
Together, we will restore Sierra Leone.

Fellow Sierra Leonean,

When election results are delayed and the situation remains calm since 2 years ago, it is important to maintain that peace of calmness rather than create unnecessary tension or doubt about the future. We must understand that any wrong action or statement can ignite chaos and influence the situation negatively.

As we continue to enjoy peace, it is important for leaders at all levels to guide those under their supervision in all officeses and discourage any inciting remarks that may threaten the stability of our nation.

We must also recognize the value of every citizen whether red or green. Bringing everyone together to build a better tomorrow is essential for the progress of our people. Sustainable development requires long-term solutions, but it also demands the active participation of experienced and dedicated young leaders working together for the common good. Give them the platform and allow them to showcase their experience and talent.

Let us unite, remain disciplined, and continue working towards a peaceful and prosperous Sierra Leone.

Blessed Tuesday to you all,

Today, I wish to address the matter of the ten-year governance cycle of political parties and the constitutional transition of power to the next opposition party. Many of our grassroots supporters who have not fully studied the Constitution must understand this clearly: it is entirely possible for the All People’s Congress (APC) to remain in governance for many years but only if the people of Sierra Leone continue to vote for us and give us the victory. However, this does not mean that one single individual candidate can remain in leadership beyond the constitutional limits. Madda Bio himself won't try that for no reason.

In simple terms, after every 5–10 years, there should be a change of candidate representing our party and not a change of the political party that governs the nation. This distinction is crucial, and I am emphasizing it now to strengthen our strategic positioning as we prepare for the 2028 elections. I have observed many angles of their plans, and I am guiding our people to peace to plan better and to safeguard this nation and restore dignity, hope, and opportunities for all Sierra Leoneans.

Let us also remember that our values are core foundation of this nation and the Constitution remains the supreme law of our land. We must respect it in every aspect of our political activities. Problems arise when an incumbent President attempts to extend his stay in power after completing the constitutionally-mandate. And mostly that is where instability begins. But if no attempt of such is made to exceed those limits, then it becomes the responsibility of the opposition to organize, stand firm, and democratically remove the incumbent government through the legitimate electoral process.

Let me also advise our young vibrant leaders coming up. Please be highly responsible in your words to the public in all angles. Think before you talk if there is nothing to say leave quitely no one will hold you accountable for your quietness. Remember, every steps you take now is noted. And therefore, no one must use threats or violence to delay the positive change our people desperately seek. Our work is with the citizens, who are already exhausted from the suffering they face daily. The task ahead is enormous, and the future holds us accountable for setting things right. Progress cannot be achieved through chaos. Chaos can only delays our mission and increases the time for them and the hardship on ordinary people.

I urge everyone to refrain from statements or actions that could be used against you tomorrow. Even if you are not the cause of a problem, you may still be drawn into investigations that distract us from our 2028 objective. The election battle has already begun; let us remain focused.

We are also aware of numerous allegations concerning illegal drug activities involving individuals in high positions around the country. Let us gather credible evidence, remain disciplined, and ensure that justice is served at the appropriate time.

Regarding our internal leadership: whether Mr. A or Mr. B emerges as our flagbearer from the delegates’ conference, let us accept the outcome with faith, unity, and discipline. We must rally behind our chosen leader with full commitment.

This is a serious national responsibility placed on our shoulders, and we must not miss the target. Unity, discipline, and focus will determine our success.

May God guide and protect us all as we work together for a better Sierra Leone.
