You Don't Always Need More Demand. You Need the Right Demand 🍦
A recent situation involving a local entrepreneur got me thinking about something we don't always talk about in business: demand has to match capacity.
I genuinely like her products and think she has a fantastic business. I buy them myself and enjoy them. I don't know all the circumstances surrounding what happened, so this isn't about judging her decision. It simply made me reflect on my own experiences as an entrepreneur.
Marketing can create tremendous demand. But if demand grows faster than your ability to deliver, you can find yourself struggling to meet the very demand you worked so hard to create.
As a one-person brokerage, I understand this.
There is only one of me. I can only handle so many enquiries, viewings, property visits and transactions in a day.
Over time, I've learned that not every person who contacts me is necessarily my customer, and that's okay.
I gravitate towards clients who know what they want, understand the process, respect my time and are genuinely ready to move forward.
For me, it's not simply about putting properties in front of people. It's about providing a structured, professional service and using my time and expertise to connect the right clients with the right opportunities.
I've learned that trying to be everything to everyone isn't necessarily good business.
Sometimes, you have to know your capacity.
Sometimes, you have to know your customer.
And sometimes, you have to be comfortable saying no so that you can serve the right people well.
You don't always need more demand. You need the right demand.
I'm still learning too, but this is something my own business has taught me.
Know your product. Know your customer. Know your capacity. And know your value 🤍
