Siren on, crash follows: Marked police vehicle collides with private car driven by cop

A marked police vehicle responding with sirens and lights activated was involved in a collision with a private vehicle driven by a police officer at a major Port of Spain intersection on Saturday (March 21st, 2026) afternoon, leaving two officers seeking medical attention.

The incident occurred around 4:00 p.m. at the junction of Wrightson Road and South Quay. Reports indicate that the marked police vehicle was travelling east along Wrightson Road while engaged in official duties when the private vehicle entered the intersection from South Quay, resulting in a collision.

The impact caused the police vehicle to spin and crash into a wall along the eastbound lane, sustaining significant damage.

A police officer who was seated in the front passenger seat of the marked vehicle complained of injuries and was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the private vehicle—also a police officer—was likewise taken for medical evaluation.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing by Cpl Denoon of the Central Police in Port of Spain.— Story by I.A.N News

"She was a fighter": Rideshare driver shot dead and dumped in Montrose— killed for her car by passenger (s)

Police have launched a homicide investigation into the brutal murder of 38-year-old Avanelle Abraham, a rideshare driver who was shot dead and dumped along Maraj Street, Montrose, Chaguanas, on Sunday evening.

Abraham, who lived at Penco Street, Montrose, had responded to a rideshare call earlier in the afternoon, was murdered for her vehicle, sources confirmed.

It remains unclear which rideshare company she was working with, or exactly where she picked up her passenger(s), but Ian Alleyne Network expect those details to emerge as the probe continues.

Sources told the Ian Alleyne Network that Abraham was still in the process of paying for her vehicle — a silver Kia Cerato sedan, registration PDZ 3276 — which remains missing.

According to early intelligence, Abraham’s passenger(s) reportedly announced a robbery and ordered her out of her vehicle. However, relatives told us she was the type of woman who would fight for what belonged to her.

“She’s a fighter and would fight for what is right and hers,” a family member said.

Investigators believe she resisted the attackers. She was then shot once in the head and pushed out of her own car, which the suspects then sped off with.

Her body was discovered around 5:15 p.m. on November 16th, after officers from the Central Division Task Force responded to reports of a shooting. Abraham was found lying motionless on the roadway with a gunshot wound to the left side of her head and a cushion beneath her legs. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Residents reported hearing a single gunshot around 4:58 p.m., followed by a silver vehicle speeding out of Maraj Street heading south — believed to be Abraham’s stolen car.

This killing comes amid a disturbing rise in robberies, abductions, and attacks on rideshare drivers, carried out by bandits posing as legitimate passengers.

Investigations into Abraham’s murder and the whereabouts of her stolen vehicle are ongoing.— Story by Ian Alleyne Network

A police constable is counting his losses after his white Nissan Tiida was stolen in Aranguez overnight and later recovered in Laventille without several pieces of police-issued equipment that were inside the car.

Around 2:05 a.m. on November 16th, officers of the Barataria CID responded to a report of a stolen vehicle along Johnny King Road, Aranguez.

The victim, a 31-year-old police constable assigned to the Besson Street Police Station, told investigators he had parked and secured the Tiida around 8:30 p.m. on November 15th before visiting a nearby residence.

When he returned around 2:00 a.m., the vehicle was missing.

The vehicle was not equipped with GPS tracking. Inside the car were several police-issued gear.

The stolen Tiida was later recovered in Laventille; however, all police-issued items were missing. A video later surfaced online showing the stolen gear being advertised for sale.
