What I learned in Washington, D.C. Insights from Dr. Lawrence Yun, Chief Economist for the National Association of REALTORS®

This week I had the opportunity to attend the 2026 REALTORS® Legislative Meetings in Washington, D.C., where thousands of REALTORS® from across the country gathered to discuss housing, property rights, homeownership, and the future of real estate.

One of the most anticipated speakers was Dr. Lawrence Yun, Chief Economist for the National Association of REALTORS®. Dr. Yun is one of the nation's most respected voices on housing and economic trends and regularly advises industry leaders, lawmakers, and media outlets on the state of the housing market.

With so much discussion about inflation, interest rates, affordability, and the possibility of a recession, I wanted to share some of the key takeaways from his presentation and what they may mean for consumers right here in Texas.

Congratulations on your beautiful new lake house in Brownwood!

This one definitely came with its own challenges and learning curves. In my 15 years of real estate, there were a few things during this transaction that I had never experienced before. Thankfully, we all worked through them together and made it to the finish line.

The Texas Attorney General is investigating and filing lawsuits against certain solar companies over allegations of deceptive sales practices.

This doesn't mean solar is bad. It does mean homeowners should do their homework before signing any agreement.

A few things to ask before installing solar panels:

1. Will I own the system, lease it, or have a loan?
2. What are the actual monthly payments?
3. Are the projected energy savings guaranteed?
4. What happens if I sell my home?
5. Are there any liens, UCC filings, or transfer requirements?

As a REALTOR®, I've seen solar systems work well for some homeowners and create challenges for others when it's time to sell. The key is understanding exactly what you're signing before moving forward.
