National Night Out was a great success at Applewood Point of Apple Valley. Members enjoyed an ice social and the beautiful weather. Our Drayton Trail neighbors were welcomed. Our members donated school supplies. A very enjoyable evening was had by all.

In the game of golf there is that moment of brilliance that does not come often enough but keeps us golfers coming back again and again. On Monday, August 3, 2026, at Valleywood Golf Course (in our “back yard”), the event of the century took place. Tom stepped up to his golf ball from approximately 140 yards in the fairway on the 8th hole and took a mighty swing with his club and buried his golf ball into the hole. The memory still brings tears of joy and exuberance to those who observed the moment. Two foursomes (Curt, Tom M, Marv, Virgil, Stewart, Tom K, Les, Mike} from Applewood Pointe Apple Valley thoroughly enjoyed the day and had time for a selfie.

AWPAV VETS GROUP - FOOD DRIVE
There is a very active veterans group here at AWPAV. They meet monthly and have two fund-raisers each year: Toys for Tots during the holidays and a summer food drive. For this year's annual food drive, the group decided to name it in honor of one of their vets who recently passed away from cancer. The 2026 AWPAV Kern Hough Memorial Food Drive closed May 31st. The Veterans Group is pleased to share that over 40 donations have been received and we doubled last year's donation total. All contributions were delivered to the Shepherd of the Valley Food Shelf here in Apple Valley. One of their Outreach speakers attended our All Members meeting and gave an excellent presentation. Donations are used right here in our area, no one is ever turned away, and donations are needed this summer, more than ever. Cash donations (which are easy for our members) can be used to buy food, personal care products, pet food and a variety of other needed items. For every dollar they receive, they can buy about $7 of products. A delegation of AWPAV Vets and Kern's family attended the donation meeting, which included a question and answer session and a special guided tour by their staff. They have 150 on their staff and all are volunteers! It's such a worthwhile cause, especially with this year's honoree. 💜Kern would be very proud of the impact we’ve made together. 💜

Memorial Day at AWPAV
We had lots of activities on this special day. First, we flew our flags at half-staff (based on Gov. Walz proclamation) in honor and memory of all our brave and courageous Service Men and Women who have given their all in Service.

In the afternoon, we had a moving presentation by two of our members on all the lives lost by our patriots fighting for our freedoms.

While it was a solemn occasion, we also had some time for fun. A wonderful picnic was attended by over 100 of our members, enjoying Hy-Vee fried chicken and tons of sides and desserts provided by members. Co****le and bocce ball tournaments ran throughout the afternoon.

Wrapping up the evening, our AWP Recycling group completed a successful collection of bags of table scraps, compostable paperware, which was deposited at the Apple Valley drop off site.

A great Kentucky Derby party with many hats of all styles (both men and women) and good food, as usual.
