At AvalonBay, reducing our environmental impact includes supporting biodiversity throughout our development process.

As part of our continued partnership with the Native Plant Rescue Project, their team recently collected seeds from the rare Texas Almond (Prunus minutiflora) at one of our development sites in Austin. Despite recent storms, they gathered hundreds of seeds that are now being shared with TreeFolks and local municipal partners for propagation and restoration efforts.

These seeds will help restore native habitats across the region, extending the impact of this work beyond our communities.

This ongoing collaboration reflects our commitment to understanding and supporting biodiversity as part of responsible development. 🌿

Meet Yvonne Zhu, Sr. Manager of Compensation. From immigrating to the U.S. as an international student to building a successful career while raising a family, her experiences have shaped the perspective she brings to her role at AvalonBay.

“I had to navigate life as an international student and long-term working visa holder, while building a career in the U.S. Along the way, I’ve become a proud mom raising two kids, now in college, an active volunteer in my community and local language school, and a devoted daughter carrying the responsibility of caring for my parents.”

Reflecting on those experiences, she shares:

“No experience is truly ‘bad.’ In the moment, things may feel difficult or painful, but over time they become part of our growth. They shape who we are today, and for that, I’ve learned to value every experience.”

The Colorado Vollapalooza was a huge success, with almost two-thirds of associates across the region coming together to give back to their communities. 💙

From cleaning up the homes of rescued farmed animals at Luvin Arms Animal Sanctuary to making no-sew fleece blankets for veterans and playing bingo with seniors through Volunteers of America, teams brought back some favorite volunteering traditions while making a meaningful impact.

This year also introduced new opportunities, including volunteering at Food Bank of the Rockies, where associates put their strength to the test moving heavy pallets of donated food to support families in need.

We’re proud of the collective impact our associates made together and grateful for the organizations helping strengthen communities across Colorado.
