Churchill, Manitoba - The first bear appears and your breath catches somewhere it doesnā€™t come back from. Then another. And another. By the twenty-seventh, I was somehow more enchanted - and in awe - than I was at the first.

Thereā€™s something about standing in a landscape that owes you nothing, watching a polar bear family that will never know you saw them, that puts everything else in proportion.
