DO NOT BE SO QUICK TO THROW OUT YOUR OLD A/C UNIT OR WATER HEATER‼️
Average new water heaters last only about 7-10 years and then they must be replaced.
But when he comes across old ones like this one from 1956, they last forever
This is because of a business model called Planned Obsolescence and it’s a business strategy companies now use to engineer produces to fail after a certain among of time
This way you have to keep buying the same product over and over again!
➡️ This is why water heaters die. It's something that can be easily fixed but plumbers will never tell you, & manufacturers will never tell you.
There's a device inside your water heater specifically designed to stop corrosion & it does so by sacrificing itself. It's called the Sacrificial Anode. It's a metal rod that draws all the corrosive action onto itself instead of onto the walls of your heater.
If you replace that rod every 7 years your water heater can last 30 years. Have you ever seen "sediment " or rust chunks come out of your water faucet, especially when you turn on the hot water valve? Plumbers will tell you that's rust from your pipes, but it's not. Those chunks are off the Sacrificial Anode doing what it's supposed to do. It's sacrificing itself so your water heater lasts a long time.
So why do water heaters not last long? Because the Sacrificial Anode has completely fallen apart after 7 years & it's no longer protecting your heater from corrosion. That rod can be removed from the top of the water heater, a new one installed, & you're ready for another 7 years.
Companies make an electronic Anode for water heaters that disrupts chemical reactions from occurring inside your heater, & they last forever! If you're going to replace the Anode, you might as well put in an electronic one so you never have to replace the Anode again. And then you just may have a water heater that lives as long as you do!
