Many of Georgia's major cities, such as Atlanta, Savannah, and Macon, have public transportation systems; however, there are larger cities and populous counties that lack comprehensive public transit. Based on available information, some of the more populated areas in Georgia with limited or no public transportation include:
Barrow County, with a population of over 80,000, which has no general public transit system.
Houston County has also been cited as a large county without a dedicated public transit system, although a private service company has started to serve the area.
Covington (Newton County), a growing city that has become a "bedroom community" for the Atlanta metro area, has a very limited public transit presence.
Walton and Oconee Counties face similar challenges, lacking public transit options as growing bedroom communities.
It is essential to note that some of these areas may have limited, specialized, or on-demand services for seniors or individuals with disabilities, but they do not have a robust, fixed-route bus or rail system available to the general public. In many of these areas, car ownership is considered a necessity for residents.
