🎡 11 Years of Preserving Joyland’s History 🎡 It is hard to believe that 11 years have passed since I published my very first book about Joyland Amusement Park. What began with American Photographs: Joyland Amusement Park grew into an eleven-year journey of researching, collecting photographs, preserving memories, and telling the stories of one of Wichita’s most beloved landmarks.

Looking back at this original cover reminds me just how much the project—and my understanding of Joyland’s history—has grown. That first book opened the door to additional editions and entirely new books exploring the park, its attractions, its Gunfighters, its newspaper history, and the people whose lives were touched by Joyland.

Most importantly, this journey would not have been possible without the former employees, performers, families, historians, collectors, and Joyland fans who shared their photographs, stories, corrections, and memories with me along the way.

Verna Wommack recently shared these wonderful scrapbook pages she created while working on her May memories. As an avid scrapbooker, she included the May 2, 2026, book signing for A Day of Joy at Joyland Park held at Al’s Old & New Book Store.

When readers and supporters share something like this with me, it serves as a wonderful reminder of why I continue researching, writing, and preserving Joyland’s history. Knowing that my work has become part of someone else’s memories—and even earned a place in their scrapbook—means more to me than I can express.

I want to sincerely thank Verna and everyone who has supported my research and published works over the years. I’m also incredibly grateful to those who have come to recognize me as the “Joyland Historian.” It is a title I’m proud to carry, and I’ll continue doing my part to preserve the memories, stories, photographs, and history of Wichita’s beloved Joyland Amusement Park for future generations. 🎡📖❤️

🚀🏡 A New Look for My Alabama Real Estate Signs! I wanted my new For Sale signs to represent more than real estate—they needed to represent a little piece of Madison County history.

My new design was inspired by Space City USA, Madison County’s long-lost amusement park that once dreamed of bringing the excitement of the Space Age to North Alabama. I incorporated that retro space theme into the artwork, combining an astronaut exploring another world with something we all recognize: home.

As a REALTOR® and historian, I love finding ways to bring my passion for local history into my real estate business. You definitely won't mistake this sign for anyone else's!

❤️ This Is Why I Continue to Write and Publish Books. Seeing a post like this from Ann King reminds me exactly why I continue researching, writing, and publishing books about Joyland.

One of the most rewarding parts of this journey has been helping people preserve their own stories. Working with Ann and the former Joyland Gunfighters to document their years at the park and tell their story in Joyland Park Gunfighters was something truly special. These weren't simply photographs and names on a page—they were real people, friendships, adventures, and memories that deserved to become part of Joyland's permanent history.

I wouldn't change anything about the journey of piecing the book together. From gathering photographs and identifying the gunfighters to hearing their stories and working with the lovely Ann King, it became much more than another book project. It became an opportunity to preserve a chapter of Joyland history through the people who actually lived it.

Thank you, Ann, for trusting me with those memories and for allowing me to help share the story of the Joyland Gunfighters. ❤️
