A large crowd gathers around the Grand Carousel at Wonderland Park in Wichita, Kansas, during the early twentieth century. Men, women, and children dressed in period attire surround the ornate attraction, offering a remarkable glimpse of the crowds and excitement that once filled Wichita’s celebrated amusement park. The photograph is believed to date from the early 1900s to 1910s, during Wonderland Park’s years of operation. Twelve Years of Preserving Saline County History. 📖 Twelve years ago, Saline County marked the beginning of my journey as a published author. Co-authored with Faith Dincolo and released by Arcadia Publishing in July 2014, this book opened the door to years of researching, preserving, and sharing the rich history of Kansas communities.

What started as a single project has grown into a lifelong passion, leading to numerous books on local history, amusement parks, forgotten places, and the people who shaped them. I remain deeply grateful to everyone who has purchased a book, shared a story, contributed photographs, or supported my work over the years.

This dramatic black-and-white photograph captures a tornado descending from a massive storm cloud over the town of Mullinville, Kiowa County, Kansas, on June 11, 1915. The image was published in the Monthly Weather Review (Vol. 47, July 1919, facing page 448), where it is identified as Mullinville. Located approximately ten miles west of Greensburg along present-day U.S. Highway 54, Mullinville witnessed one of Kansas's many memorable encounters with severe weather. This remarkable photograph stands as an enduring historical record of the power and danger of the Great Plains' tornadoes during the early twentieth century.

Standing proudly in front of his business, William Marquardt and his associates pose outside Marquardt's Blacksmith & Wagon Shop in Oketo, Kansas. In an era when horses, wagons, and agricultural equipment formed the backbone of daily life on the prairie, skilled blacksmiths were among the most essential craftsmen in every Kansas community.

The sign above the storefront advertised blacksmithing, wagon making, and horse and mule shoeing, services that kept local farmers, merchants, and travelers moving across the countryside. Wagon frames and equipment displayed in front of the shop offered a visible reminder of the trade that helped build and sustain rural Kansas.

Photographs such as this provide a rare glimpse into the businesses and individuals who supported the growth of Oketo during its early years, preserving a chapter of small-town Kansas history that might otherwise be forgotten.

🎡 The game is here and ready to play! 🎢 A Day of Joy at Joyland Park! – The Board Game has officially arrived, and I am so excited to finally share it. This nostalgic family game brings the magic of Joyland back to the table with classic attractions, midway surprises, Reward cards, Challenge cards, Movement cards, and plenty of Joy Points along the way.
