This is pulled from an article in The Hill

We have visited faith-based ministries, shelters, and recovery programs across the country, including in Los Angeles, Austin and Baltimore, where people who once struggled with homelessness are now working, rebuilding relationships and living independently. These programs succeed because they treat the whole person, not just housing needs.

Expanding the continuum of solutions will include faith-based organizations as full partners in this work. Long before government built modern homelessness systems, ministries and recovery groups helped vulnerable Americans find community, accountability and hope. And the faith-based community is poised to fill this role once again. We have met people across this country who want to earn another chance, not a lifetime of government handouts. Compassion should restore dignity and encourage self-sufficiency, rather than indefinite dependency. I am proud of the prograss we have made so far at the Department of Housing and Urban Development in changing our nation’s mindset toward homelessness. I look forward to helping more and more of our fellow citizens return to the path to self-sufficiency and independence, so that they can live out their own American Dream.

Scott Turner is the 19th secretary of Housing and Urban Development.

Economic Benefits for the Region and Individuals

The House 2 Love LLC’s model creates a fiscal stabilizing effect for both the individual and the local community:

Individual Financial Stability: By matching housemates, homeowners can "age in place" by generating supplemental income, while seekers find attainable rents that Social Security can actually cover.

Resource Efficiency: This model maximizes the "hidden inventory" of San Diego’s housing stock, filling unused rooms and reducing the urgent need for costly new construction.

Systemic Cost Reduction: Every senior housed via shared living is one fewer individual relying on high-cost emergency rooms, public shelters, and intensive county services, thereby reducing the "geriatric giant" of loneliness-related public expenditure.

Shared living is more than a housing solution; it is a clinical intervention. The "active reciprocity" found in cohousing acts as a primary determinant of health that yields results which traditional congregate care cannot match.

Democratizing Relational Health: Crucially, research from Frontiers in Public Health demonstrates that cohousing improves social support independently of socioeconomic status, education, or previous occupation. This means The House 2 Love LLC can "democratize" health benefits previously reserved for the wealthy, providing positive outcomes to those on the waitlist regardless of their income history.

Mortality Risk Reduction: Shared living mitigates "relational loneliness," a condition linked to a 26% increased risk of premature mortality, as well as depression and suicidal ideation.

Cognitive Vitality: Residents in these environments exhibit superior performance in verbal episodic memory and semantic fluency. This cognitive preservation occurs independently of the resident's educational background, proving that the environment itself acts as "medicine."

Positive Coping Strategies: The "human touch and presence" inherent in shared living provides a buffer against the physical frailty and cognitive decline often accelerated by the isolation of single-family homes.

Medication Safety Tips for Seniors Living Alone!
By staying aware of medication safety guidelines, you can avoid complications and other issues. Did you know that simply storing your medications in the wrong spot at home can affect them?
Use these medication safety tips to stay organized and healthy:

1. Educate yourself about the medications. The first step to medication safety is understanding why and how you have to take every pill.
Turn to your doctor and pharmacist for advice. They can help you
understand the role each medication plays in helping you. They can also help you schedule your medications and inform you of any foods to avoid while taking it.
It’s important to ask questions and keep a list of every pill you take. Write down or record what your doctor or pharmacist tells you and keep it in a safe place.

2. Check your medications at the pharmacy. Before you take your medicine home, take a moment to talk to your pharmacist. Cases of incorrect dosages and wrong pills are on the rise, so you want to ensure your prescription is filled correctly and you understnad doses.
Check that both the dosage and type of medication are correct. The wrong pills can create a serious reaction that sends you to the hospital.

3. Know the side effects. By knowing the side effects of each medication, you can watch for any abnormalities in the way your body reacts to the medicine and seek help if you need to.

4. Know the proper storage techniques. Some medications are highly sensitive to temperature changes while others can’t be exposed to the sun.
Talk to your pharmacist or doctor about storage tips for your drugs. They can recommend places in your home that will keep the medications at an opportune temperature.

5. Organize your medications carefully. Pill organizers are a popular way to store medications at home, but you have other options.
You may want to consider a customized pill organizer that lists your
medications’ names and other information above the compartments. You can find organizers from a variety of retailers.
Pill packs are an alternative to traditional plastic organizers. They’re
individual packs that contain all of the pills you need to take in one day.
The exterior of the pack can list the date and type of medication. They’re available from multiple pharmacies and can help you track your pills.
It’s crucial to have organized medications. Not only do they make it easier for you, but they also help you avoid medication errors that can cause serious harm.

6. Avoid changing your dosage on your own. Although you may feel better, it’s important to talk to your doctor before changing a drug dosage. Changing the dosage or stopping a drug can lead to withdrawal symptoms or even health emergencies.

7.Consider the source of your medications. Medication safety can be affected by where you purchase your prescription. Always use a reliable source.
If you’re purchasing your medications from online retailers, foreign
pharmacies, or other sources, you may want to discuss it with your doctor.
Cases of contamination and other issues are possible.

8. Be sure to tell your family about this change so they can help you.
