This is an opportunity for us to reflect not only on the theme, “A Century of Black History Commemorations,” but also on how Cortland is one of countless organizations whose members are connected to the history this month celebrates.
This month, we’re highlighting six of our associates who shared their relation to a Black history maker — from prolific and award‑winning musicians Billy Strayhorn and Oscar Sheppard, to historic baseball player Dennis “Bose” Biddler, to Dr. Edwin A. Thompson, founder of Atlanta Metropolitan State College, and to William Still, an abolitionist credited as the father and primary architect of the Underground Railroad.
