Fed Rate vs. Prime Rate—What’s the Difference?

The Fed Rate is what banks charge each other. The Prime Rate is what banks charge us (usually ~3% higher).

🏡 Mortgage rates don’t move exactly with the Fed Rate, but changes do influence borrowing costs—especially for ARMs and home equity loans.
