It can be easy to get caught up in the excitement of a 3 day weekend and say the wrong thing in the spur of the moment. As a reminder, Memorial Day honors our American soldiers who died in military service.

I wanted to bring this to your attention for two reasons:

1. There are other holidays dedicated to celebrating our incredible veterans and active-duty military. Those heroes are very aware of the purpose of this holiday, and it can feel awkward to them when someone shows them appreciation for their service on a day that should be focused on the fallen.

2. For family members of men and women who gave their lives in service to our country, Memorial Day may be a more somber occasion and it can be offputting to hear "Happy Memorial Day". I only encourage you to be aware and choose your words appropriately. A good alternative might be, "I hope your Memorial Day is meaningful."

I hope you have a great weekend and will get to spend extra time with family and friends!
