Hey all, it's been a little while, but we are super exited to announce the next Proto party and music show! This one features two bands - one of our favorite local groups comprised of Grade A musicians - Wavetree, and touring artist BB Palmer and his band. Save the date - Sunday September 27, 2pm, music starts between 3 and 3:30. Food provided as well as beverages but feel free to bring your own stuff as well. We plan to do it outside, but will move indoors for bad weather.
Here is more about both our touring artist BB Palmer and Wavetree.
I met BB at the Star Bar a few months ago when I was doing a show with the Jeff Evans Porkestra. It was part of an all day festival. He went on before us, and my head turned when I heard him. I have to admit I am not a fan of most country music, but I am also open minded to hearing new things. He definitely has the country influence, but his brand is so unique and special that it transcends genres. I got his contact info for a potential future booking right after he finished, and after checking out his tunes, I am glad I did! Here is what others besides me have to say about BB Palmer -
“Hailing from the heart of railroad country in Opelika, Alabama, ‘Maverick Alt-Country genius B.B. Palmer’ (Frank Etheridge / The Local) has made a name for himself over the past several years, honing a sound steeped in the traditions of American country music while expanding the genre into new territory. His latest offering Alabama Samurai forges influences like WuTang and Waylon Jennings creating a sound identified as Kung Fu Country Music or WuTwang” - Sweetheart PR
“The cosmic cowboys of Austin back in the 60’s have got nothing on B.B. Palmer. All they did was blend Texas Tradition with hippie counterculture. Palmer has brought up an entire collection of Indian-based music with lyrics inspired by Hindu scripture and done it all in Alabama with people from the state” - Derek Scudder (The Amp)
“If you like your country cosmic and more than a little experimental, then you must check out B.B. Palmer.” – AmericanaUK
“Bridges the distance between Ravi Shankar and Tom T. Hall with remarkable aplomb.” – PopMatters
"The music is comprised of classic h***y tonk elements, with twanged, strummed and plucked guitars, weeping steel and a sweet fiddle scratch behind Palmer’s distinctive, idiosyncratic voice. Lee County’s Finest is somewhat of a trip, a listening experience from start to finish, with samples and ambiances linking the tracks in a continual sonic flow” Tony Sexton, Whiskey Preachin - Brighton UK
The second band of the afternoon/evening is Atlanta legends of Wavetree. Lead by top Atlanta names - George Price (guitar/vocals), Barry Richman (guitar), Charlie Korch (drums), and Joel Edwards (bass/keys, vocals) Like BB, they transcend genres - from blues, to rock, to jazz, to fusion - these guys can do it all and they do it well, as Atlanta music enthusiasts know. George is a regular guest performer at our Napoleons Blues Jam, and he is quite amazing doing improvisations, holding it down on both bass and guitar, working with up and coming young talent, and performing with the energy and stage presence we have all come to know and love.
Mark your calendars - Sept 27!
Stay tuned for the invite, and of course mark your calendar - Sept 27 for our first concert of the fall.
