❄️ Weekend Weather Prep ❄️
With the colder temperatures ahead we may see several inches of snow or ice. Ice can bring down powerlines, trees, and cause more accidents. Please review this checklist and begin your preparations.
🚘 Fill up yours cars, generators, and have extra fuel in appropriate gas tanks with good ventilation.
💊 Do you have enough of all your prescriptions? You may not be able to refill your medications for a few days as power and roads may not be easily accessible. If your medication requires refrigeration (insulin, etc.) ensure you have ice packs ready and a small insulated lunchbox to keep your meds in. Have extra hearing aid batteries, contact lenses, glasses, syringes.
🍔 Have 3 days of food and a gallon of water per person. Whether it is packaged dry goods, canned food and a manual can opener, bottled water, formula, baby food and supplies, diapers, powdered milks, paper plates, napkins, and cutlery are great to have for easy cleanup.
🔥 Have extra firewood or kindling if you’ll be using them for heat. Always ensure your flue is open, don’t leave your fire going without supervision. Have matches to light your fire or light your grill or dual-range/gas stove. Ensure you also have lots of warm blankets, warm coats, hats, and gloves.
📻 Have emergency essentials: hand crank radio for weather alerts, charge your devices and power banks, place new batteries in flashlights, have candles and a lighter/matches easily accessible, write down important phone numbers in case cell service is down or overwhelmed.
⛑️ First aid kit readily available and stocked. Injuries may occur more easily due to lack of light or slipping on ice. It may be difficult to make it to urgent care or an ER.
🧴Have toiletries - you may be stuck inside for awhile. Dry shampoo and baby wipes can help you feel cleaner in a pinch.
🐕 Pet supplies! Have a 3 day supply for our furry family members. Check their meds, food supply, water supply, puppy pads, crates readily available in case of evacuation or alternate living arrangements.
Other useful items: copies of important documents, bag of sand or gravel for traction, and a shovel, hand saw.
Catch up on laundry and dishes for good measure ;)
Any helpful ideas are welcomed!
