This is important information about Mortgages! There’s a big difference between PAYMENT DEFERRAL and MORTGAGE FOREBEARANCE.
A FORBEARANCE provides temporary relief by reducing or suspending your payments for a brief period of time, depending on your individual situation. You may be required to pay the relief amount in one lump sum at some point in the future.
A PAYMENT DEFERRAL is an agreement to pay the past due amounts at a different time. This may be an option for you at the end of your forbearance period based on your unique circumstances and loan program.
Some people are asking for forbearance thinking they will have a couple of months to catch up and then start making normal payments again.
Make sure you ask lots of questions about what you are agreeing to if you are contacting your lender for help right now.
