Imagine finding fresh baked goods or handmade crafts just steps from your front door.
Austin’s new pilot program is opening up front yards, driveways, and porches in select neighborhoods for local micro-businesses to set up shop. Homeowners can now sell everything from artisanal treats to small services right where they live, as long as they follow safety and permitting rules.
This initiative is designed to give aspiring entrepreneurs, especially those from underrepresented groups, more flexible ways to earn and connect with the community. While some neighbors are curious about the impact on noise and appearance, the city will use feedback and real-life results through 2026 to decide what comes next.
Would you support more front yard businesses in your neighborhood, or do you have concerns? Tell me what you think.
