I grew up in Bay County and had never heard this story.
In 1978, one of the deadliest disasters in our area's history happened near Youngstown. Eight people died, thousands were evacuated, and investigators later determined it wasn't an accident.
It was sabotage.
Nearly 50 years later, no one has ever been held responsible. I was only 7 years old at the time, so I don't remember it. Do you? If you remember this event, I'd love to hear about it.

I just posted a fun new blog about some of Florida’s weirdest laws, strange stories, and some that sound fake but also completely believable if you’ve lived here long enough.
The deeper I went down the rabbit hole researching this one, the more I realized Florida really has always been a little unhinged in the best possible way.
