It’s Manatee Season in Florida

Our slow-moving, adorable manatee friends don’t love the cold — so every winter they make their way inland to Florida’s warm rivers and crystal-clear springs. While it may be a little chilly for us to swim, it’s the *perfect* temperature for manatees, which is why this is the best time of year to see them.

Our BnB sits right on the beautiful Suwannee River, surrounded by more than 50 natural springs just a short drive away. Nearby state parks like Manatee Springs State Park even offer kayak trips where you can quietly paddle and spot these gentle giants in their natural habitat.

One of our favorite nearby gems is Fanning Springs State Park — a stunning natural spring that’s perfect for swimming, relaxing, or soaking in the beauty of old Florida. The crystal-clear waters are ideal for cooling off, and the park is well-maintained with picnic areas, restrooms, and even a boardwalk that offers peaceful views of the Suwannee River.

As a bonus, there’s a charming little gift shop and snack stand, perfect for a quick treat or souvenir.

💡 Pro tip: We love grabbing lunch from Chompers right across the street and enjoying a picnic under the shade of the beautiful cypress and oak trees, draped in Spanish moss. It’s a quiet, picture-perfect setting for a relaxing day outdoors.
