Not all sink drain installations are done correctly.đźš°

The first photo shows incorrect flex piping, which may seem like a quick fix but can actually cause slow drainage, trap debris, and lead to clogs over time. The second photo shows a properly installed P-trap — the correct way to ensure smooth drainage and reliable performance.

Using the proper piping setup helps:
✔️ Improve drainage flow
✔️ Reduce buildup and clogs
✔️ Prevent unpleasant odors
✔️ Avoid costly plumbing repairs and drain cleanings later

Doing it right the first time can save homeowners money and headaches down the road. Proper plumbing matters.

Did you know your exterior outlets should be protected by a secure GFCI outlet and properly secured junction box?

GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) outlets are designed to help protect you and your family from electrical shock especially in outdoor areas exposed to rain, moisture, and the elements. A loose exterior junction box can allow moisture intrusion, create electrical hazards, and lead to unsafe conditions over time.

During a home inspection, loose or improperly secured outdoor junction boxes are a common safety concern we see. Taking care of these issues early can help improve the safety and reliability of your home’s electrical system.

At Good Steward Inspection, we believe small maintenance items can make a big difference in protecting your home and family. 🏡⚡

🚨 Attention homeowners, builders, and buyers

These photos show improperly installed hurricane ties and joist hangers on a new deck. One of the most common issues we see during inspections is missing fasteners in structural connectors.

Every manufacturer-designed hole is there for a reason. Missing nails or screws can reduce the strength of the connection and compromise the structural integrity of the deck especially during high winds, heavy loads, or severe weather events.

🔍 Proper installation matters.
âś… Every hole should contain the correct approved fastener.
❌ Missing fasteners = weakened support.

At Good Steward Inspection, we pay close attention to the details that protect your investment and your safety. Small installation mistakes today can become major problems tomorrow.

If you’re buying, building, or maintaining a home, make sure it’s inspected thoroughly.

This image shows a damaged gutter downspout that may not properly direct water away from the foundation. Proper gutter downspout extensions play a major role in protecting your home from water damage. Downspouts should discharge water at least 4 to 6 feet away from the foundation, while 8 to 10 feet is ideal for maximum protection. When water is allowed to collect near the foundation, it can lead to soil erosion, foundation settlement, cracks, crawl space moisture, and even basement flooding. A properly directed drainage system helps move rainwater safely away from the home and can prevent costly structural repairs in the future.

These images show a chimney with significant water intrusion, a deteriorated rain cap, displaced brickwork, and failing mortar joints. When chimney damage like this is left unaddressed, it can quickly become a serious safety hazard. Continued deterioration may lead to partial or complete chimney collapse, creating the potential for injury, structural damage, and costly repairs. Regular chimney inspections and timely repairs are essential to maintaining both the safety and integrity of your home.

The image below shows the proper measurements and recommended safety guidelines for a deck railing installation. A well built deck isn’t just about appearance it protects your family and guests from serious falls and structural hazards. Building codes require decks that are more than 30 inches above the ground to have a secure railing system for safety. Proper post spacing, railing height, and baluster spacing all play an important role in preventing accidents and keeping your outdoor space safe for everyone.
